Bloch reported that multiple people associated with the UCLA football program said Kelly tested positive back in March after the UCLA campus was shut down due to the virus. The former Eagles coach exhibited some mild symptoms but he recovered. Kelly also notified the school, players and other coaches on the team of his positive test.
Kelly had been following all of the recommendations made by health officials, including distancing himself and wearing a mask, but he still caught the virus.
Bloch also reported the Bruins head coach shared his story with the team during a meeting to highlight the seriousness of the virus.
Kelly spent three seasons as the Eagles head coach, compiling a 26-21 record before being fired in week 16 of the 2015 season. The following year, Kelly went to coach the San Francisco 49ers for one season, where he went 2-14 before being relieved of his coaching duties.
