Chevy Chase Health Crisis — The Inside Story

'Saturday Night Live' legend Chevy Chase has checked himself into rehab — months after The National ENQUIRER revealed the comedy star's serious battle with yo-yo dieting, drug addiction, compulsive boozing, and crippling depression! “This could very well be the last year of his life,” warned Dr. Stuart Fischer, an internist who has not treated Chevy — as the 6'4" star shocked fans by packing on 320 lbs.!

The ENQUIRER had the scoop when Chevy, now 72, was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital in April 2014 with severe shortness of breath and cardiac arrest symptoms. At the time, he’d ballooned to 300 pounds after packing on 40 pounds. The “Caddyshack” actor had lost 40 pounds within five months — but regained the weight just one month later.

The ENQUIRER also revealed how Chevy Chases' bizarre behavior on the set of the sitcom "Community" eventually had him kicked off the show — even as he insisted that he was nothing like the sexist creep that he played on television. His costars decided that Chevy was way too close to being as oblivious and insulting as moist-towelette tycoon Pierce Hawthorne.

“His oafish behavior can be so similar to the intolerant, narrow-minded Pierce, it’s of­ten hard to tell the two of them apart," said an on-set source, noting an interview where Chevy declared the sexist character was "everything that I’m not" — but then saying of his co-stars: “I mean … when you have three women, you never know what time of the month it is!”

Chevy had been filming the movie "Dog Years" with fellow ailing star Burt Reynolds before being rushed into rehab at the Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center in Minnesota. His spokesperson insists that Chase has gone into the facility for just a “tune-up” for his drinking problems.
