This hotel is very difficult to review. On the one hand, the location over the entrance to Disneyland Park is iconic and unbeatable and the pastel pink classical architecture and theming is striking and beautiful. On the other hand, the rooms are extremely dated and beaten-up and long overdue a major refurbishment.

CHECK-IN
Be prepared to wait a very long time to complete check-in. Not only are there consistently long lines for the reception desks but check-in took us, without exaggeration, nearly 45 minutes. Every single step is so slow and laborious and the Cast Members work at a snails pace. Unlike Walt Disney World, which has embraced technology, Disneyland Paris is truly stuck in the dark ages. You are given so many pieces of paper, so many cards, so many vouchers. We had individual vouchers for breakfast each day (one voucher per person per day), the hotel fastpasses (one voucher per person per day), the "hotel ID card", the hotel "charge card", the rook keys and the park tickets. Totally unnecessary to have to carry around and keep safe so many items and very wasteful and frustrating.

ROOM
We reserved a standard room but had a room on the top floor overlooking Fantasia Gardens and with a side view of the Disneyland Park and Castle. There was a small juliet-balcony. The room was very dated; wallpaper was peeling-off and the soft furnishings were scuffed and showing considerable age. I don't think the room has been remodelled since the hotel opened in the early 1990s. Whilst the decor is classic and timeless, there is no excuse for scuff marks and old furniture. The bathroom in particular was shameful for a supposed 5-star hotel: there was a very small shower-over-tub and the sanitary-ware was water marked and stained. On the plus side, there is a Nespresso machine, good-quality bathrobes and turndown service and housekeeping was very good. Note that there is no complimentary bottled water so be sure to bring your own as the bottles in the mini bar are more than 5 Euros each. In addition, there are only one or two inconveniently located power plugs and the hotel charges 11 Euros to use the in-room power adapter, so make sure to bring your own. There are no USB charging ports, which should be a basic provision in 5-star hotels in 2017 ...

BREAKFAST
We had the buffet breakfast included in our stay. Breakfast was good but not exceptional; there was a decent and high-quality selection of hot food items (scrambled eggs, potato chips, veal sausage, baked beans) and then a nice selection of high-quality pastries and yoghurts. The fruit selection was very poor and the coffee was not very good either. It is a shame there is no omelette offering or a-la-carte choices.

LEISURE FACILITIES
The swimming pool was rather disappointing. It is set in a beautiful glass conservatory but is very small and with limited seating. The jacuzzi was barely luke warm and had just a handful of tiny jets that offered only very low pressure. A complete waste of time. There was a sauna and steam room in the changing rooms.

HOTEL BENEFITS
By staying at Disneyland Hotel you receive the "hotel fastpass" which is one fastpass per person per day for use in addition to the regular fastpasses you can obtain using your regular park tickets. This is a fantastic benefit, although the "hotel fastpass' cannot be used during 1pm to 4pm so you need to plan your day accordingly. In addition, some attractions, such as the Crush Coaster at the Studios do not have the fastpass line and yet have consistently long lines (50+ minutes immediately from opening time).

LOCATION
The location is incredible. The hotel is literally over the entrance to Disneyland and you can be from your room to Main Street USA in a couple of minutes. The walk to the Studios, train station and Disney Village is only 5-7 minutes.

OVERALL
This hotel has the potential to be truly world-class and the jewel in Disney's crown. The poor condition of the dated rooms lets down the unique location and truly beautiful appearance. Given the extremely high room rates, Disney should invest in updating and renovating the guest rooms to provide a truly 5-star experience.

This hotel is beautiful. Really large rooms, airy and inviting. The staff on the whole are really good. Some of them didn't speak very good english or french though which was surprising. The pool is good. The location is perfect. A few things for families. If you like a glass of wine, try taking some with you as it is at least £10 a glass in the hotel and park. Also, upgrade to half board. This cost us jusr over £100 for 5 days for 3. If you don't, you could face a bill of £100 or more just for one meal. Finally, take the kids thier own dvd player etc as the rooms offer no english tv for kids or adults. I would definately return but would be better prepared next time.

As you would expect, the Disney employees are very helpful and courteous. They were very patience answering questions and helping with the cultural differences. We loved staying at the Disneyland Hotel. It was perfect.
