Civil aviation sector regulator DGCA has issued new guidelines for airlines. These new rules may soon make flight tickets cheaper. DGCA received information that many passengers are paying for services they do not use. Therefore, DGCA has made changes in the rules. Now, passengers will only have to pay for those services they want to use.
Passengers Will Get Freedom To Choose Services
In the circular issued on April 23, DGCA instructed all airlines to give passengers the freedom to choose services (Opt-out or Opt-in). This will reduce the base fare of flight tickets, making the fare cheaper. Also, passengers can decide which facilities they want and which they do not. Airlines add charges for many services to the passenger fare.
The base fare and the final fee are very different in such a situation. DGCA has received many feedbacks in this regard. After considering these, the customer is free to choose the services so that he can pay only for the things he needs.
Charges Imposed On Passengers Will Have To Be Stated
According to the DGCA circular, airlines will now have to unbundle the fees for seat selection, snacks/drinks charge (water will remain free), checked-in baggage charge, sports equipment charge, musical instrument charge, valuables, etc. Airlines will be able to give free baggage allowance. The charges levied on passengers accompanying luggage will have to be clearly stated. The fee will also have to be printed on the ticket. Clear information about unbundled services will also have to be given.
Charges For All Services Will Be Fixed
The circular states that the passenger must provide all the information clearly so he can choose the facilities he wants. There should not be any confusion so that the passenger does not have to pay extra charges, even by mistake. They should know how much they will have to pay for each facility. Charges for all these services will be fixed.
