My wife and I along with another couple stayed for 7 nights at the Royalton 24th Jan to 31st Jan. I would say this is the best A/I hotel (for quality of food. service from staff and the beach) we have stayed in and we have stayed in hotels in Egypt, Mexico, Dom. Republic, Turkey, Barbados and other hotels in various European countries. Transfer from Airport Transfer with TUI and I would advise not to purchase your pesos form the lady on the transfer coach as her rate is 50 pesos to the GBP compared to better exchange rates elsewhere ranging from 75-100 pesos to GBP Hotel Room Room 2605. Unfortunately the sun does not make an appearance on the balcony. Room very big, super sleep on a wonderful bed, shower fantastic with hot water, maid Madaline did a wonderful job. Food We were able to dine at all the A La Carte Restaurants ( we were not Diamond Club Members) which we enjoyed. The choice of food Breakfast, Lunch and dinner in the Buffet restaurant was excellent. Staff Wow!!!! the staff throughout the hotel are superb. Big thanks to Daniel at the Beach taking the drinks orders always checking that everything is fine etc and Haneira at the buffet for wonderful service. Also thanks to the gardeners who do a wonderful job to keep the gardens looking beautiful. Beach Wonderful beach, well kept sun loungers and there are cabanas to hire which includes 2 loungers and 2 chairs. The beach is carefully looked after and maintained. Lifeguards are on the beach and for two days the red flag was out. Join in the aqua aerobics at the beach at 11-30am so much fun well done to the entertainment team on beach. Evening shows Very enjoyable Cuban Lunch Throughly enjoyed the Cuban lunch on Friday. Band playing, pig roast etc well organised. Don't miss it from 12-30 Internet Free internet approx 27 hours for the week Just a couple of points for consideration Only one member of staff wearing a name badge, I think if all staff wore a name badge it would be helpful for communication purposes and how we can greet hen with their names The cleanliness of toilets at reception and beside the medical session were very disappointing. Would we Return All four of us said we would return but try and get a balcony that the sun makes an appearance. Brilliant hotel, wonderful staff, quality food, fantastic beach. That is what I judge a hotel, not on its stars, I only look at stars whilst I an walking along the wonderful beach at night

We had an amazing week at this fabulous hotel! The walkways, bridges and thatched roof buildings give it so much character that we feel you could not get in the other hotels in Varadero. The rooms and balconies are really spacious and were cleaned to a high standard every day, with special added touches from the maids like running a bath with flower petals in heart shapes which was very romantic and a lovely surprise to come back to! The main bar area was a really nice atmosphere every night and there is a big choice of restaurants to eat at so it doesn’t feel repetitive every night. One thing I would say is the hotel was busy and full when we were there which meant we didn’t always get a table at the restaurants unless we had reserved, which we were told we didn’t need to do. We soon worked out the system where you have to go at 6:00 to request a table at any time that evening, which could have been made clearer as we were also told we would be able to get a table if we went at 8, which wasn’t the case. We had no issue with going at 6 to request the table, but I think this should have been highlighted better to guests at the start. What made our trip amazing was the fantastic service from all staff. In particular our butler Marian was amazing. She made reservations for restaurants for us, booked us on trips and was always going out of her way to make sure everything was great during our stay. Our room wasn’t ready on the day we got there so she organised getting us another room sorted just so we wouldn’t have to wait the small extra time for our room. She rang us up in the evening on two occasions to tell us our trips were cancelled due to poor weather but she was instantly booking us on another for the dates we were free which was hugely appreciated! I also want to give a special mention to our beach bartender Leonis. He worked so hard walking up and down the beach in the heat to bring us any drinks we wanted, often before we even had to ask! He would bring water alongside our beer and cocktails ensuring we stayed hydrated! He was always smiling and he was so polite, I will never forget him and how wonderful he was. He really made our days on the beach at Royalton as amazing as possible! There are so many other staff we could mention. Bartenders and restaurant staff worked so hard to keep us happy with food and always topped up with drinks! We were so impressed! Overall, this hotel is fantastic and we would definitely recommend anyone visiting Varadero to choose Royalton !!

Hotel set in lovely well maintained grounds. Spacious rooms with towels changed daily with large bottles of shower gel and shampoo. Stunning beach with plenty of available beds and umbrellas if you’re not quick enough to bag beds near pool. Water in pools isn’t deep- mainly for a cooling off dip. The sea water is the warmest I’ve experienced, like a warm bath and so clear but didn’t see many fish when I snorkelled. Disappointed with food, apparently there are many shortages eg-potatoes, tomatoes, lemonade, other salad items and they ran out mint for the mojitos..!! I don’t go abroad to eat typical English food but I did struggle on occasion to find something so pasta it was . Ice cream parlour is a must and 24 hour snacks and coffee in the Bistro bar. The majority of the staff there were so friendly- bar staff especially the day time girls, big thanks to iliana our butler who was so helpful, she sorted out a few niggles for us . Also Gladys, Raoul and Sandra in the buffet restaurant on the balcony. We found out it’s far cheaper to upgrade to diamond service when you’re actually at the hotel rather than do it via the travel company if that’s any help to anyone. Take plenty of mosquito spray as we saw some really bad cases of people being bitten. Also take plenty of other first aid products as you will be unable to get any over there. Apparently supermarkets are practically empty apart from rum..!!

A very good experience despite reservation errors between the travel agency and the Hotel, if you appreciate a wide variety of activities, they have a good masseuse team I think and I dare say that one of the best but a poor air conditioning system , it did not drop below 25 degrees Celsius and you call and report it and only the employees apologize but do not give solutions ...... I would not repeat the visit I think that other hotels have better value for money, their price is not in correspondence with its quality I think it should be revalued by the chain that manages it Une très bonne expérience malgré des erreurs de réservation entre l'agence de voyage et l'Hôtel, si vous appréciez une grande variété d'activités, ils ont une bonne équipe de masseuse je pense et j'ose dire que l'un des meilleurs mais un système de climatisation médiocre, ça l'a fait pas descendre en dessous de 25 degrés Celsius et vous appelez et le signalez et seuls les employés s'excusent mais ne donnent pas de solutions ...... je ne referais pas la visite je pense que d'autres hôtels ont un meilleur rapport qualité prix, leur prix n'est pas dans correspondance avec sa qualité, je pense qu'il devrait être réévalué par la chaîne qui le gère Una experiencia muy buena a pesar de errores de reservación entre la agencia de viajes y el Hotel, si se aprecia gran variedad de actividades, tienen un buen equipo de masajista creo y me atrevo a decir que uno de los mejores pero un sistema de climatización deficientes ,no bajaba de 25 grados celsion y llamas y lo reportas y solo los empleados dan disculpa pero no dan soluciones...... No volvería a repetir la visita creo que otros hoteles tienen mejor relación calidad -precio, su precio no está en correspondencia con su calidad pienso que sebe ser revaluado por la cadena que lo administra.

This was our second go around at a Royalton Resort. The first time it was early 2018 Cayo Coco right after the hurricane. The resort was rebuilt so the terrible top shelf collection of liquor and lack of fresh fruit and veggies could be excused. This resort has no reasonable explaination for what we endured. Booze is still terrible. Absolut vodka is top shelf. You have to be diamond club to access a good drink, but the extra cost, is just not worth it. The "Diamond Club" upgrade gets you the same room, a beach with less anemities than those for none Diamond Club guests. The clubhouse offers the same "top shelf selection" but if you get their earlier enough you can grab one can of beer for the beach or your room which beats the draft (I cannot imagine when the last time the lines were cleaned). The Diamond club conceirge's favorite words are "NO". I don't think I have been told no so many times before. Snacks are hard to find, the store does not sell them, so if you want something salty while enjoying a beverage you have to save a corn snack mix only seen at the buffets. Grab a napkin and fill up because if you are not on buffet time you may not eat. The pictures of the "moats", are old. They pools have water but none of the other water features. Does not look like the promotional photos at all. Also be careful as around the bar there is nothing to stop a weary patron from stumbling off the board walk down 4 or more feet onto concrete. Cayo Coco made up for it with the most amazing live musicians every day at multiple locations. Hicacos you have to ask the butlers where the violinist is everyday and they don't get back with an answer so it is hit and miss. The GM needs to go back to Spain. Never saw him speaking with guests. Several staff also speak Russian. While the guests were often hungry and looking for food, the bistro does offer a small menu and is decent 24/7 which took time to discover, we fed the mosquitoes well!!!!! OMG, I thought it was bed bugs at first because you cannot see these tiny little vampires. Never saw them fogging the resort, and the last night was told if you ask the maid she will spray your room. I was prepared for the bite o rama at Cayo Coco, not bitten once and was so unprepared for the battle against them at this resort. We have been to four different resorts in Varadero and never been subjected to the relentless biting received at this one. Did we have a good vacation? It was nice to get away from snowy Alberta and we were desperate for a trip after canceling one after another for the past two years, but we will never darken a Royalton again.

We decided to visit Cuba last minute. There were good points to this hotel and some not so good. The staff really make this hotel very helpful and friendly always smiling. Our room was very clean and spacious overlooking trees with lots of birds including the beautiful humming bird. We didn’t see our maid but she looked after us well. If you like a cuppa take a small kettle as there are no facilities to make tea or coffee in your room, take round pin plugs not flat ones. The pool area was clean and well looked after our first few days there seemed to be more staff walking round asking if you wanted drinks towards the end of our week this didn’t happen I did wonder if the staff had been redeployed as there was lots of painting going on with areas being closed off which reduced areas for seating There didn’t seem to be enough seating in the main bar area for the amount of guests which was disappointing made even worse when areas were closed off for painting. I did wonder why all these repairs weren’t done during lockdown. Areas did need it as it did look very tired in parts. The main restaurant was comfortable. You were served your food which on some occasions you had to wait for staff also having to wander around looking for plates Etc was a pain. Some food was cooked to order so it was fresh the choice was ok they did seem to run out of some things. The other restaurants which were mainly for diamond club were a huge disappointment that’s if you could get in one. The Italian was ok although not really Italian. Caribe was disappointing, tex mex awful felt like we were second class glad I didn’t upgrade to diamond! It is only my opinion it’s really not worth it. The Cuban day was the best food great atmosphere great too. Glad I did a week and not 2. The bistro food was quite nice. The main bar ran out of gin. We didn’t book any trips with tui, we caught the op on op off bus to down town varadero had to pay with credit card wouldn’t take cash £7.12 for two not much to buy there apart from novelty memorabilia also it is common fir them to run out of lager! Don’t be caught out going to the flee market by horse and cart if they say shall I wait say no and pay what you agreed on before you got on!! We had to pay much more!! We went to havanna by classic car it was the highlight to our holiday our driver/guide was very knowledgeable and we felt very safe with him too he took us round showing us all the sights and telling us the history. Staff that stood out to us were union and Jessica in the restaurant Joel head butler and Daniel in the bar.

Review from Scott S..... pretty much sums up our review as well, but I would like to add a little more.. We travelled on 25th August for a 2 week stay in Cuba. The people at resort try their very best at this resort. Food supplies very very short with basic like onion tomatoes garlic etc.. . My husband fell really unwell on our last day and was seen by the resort Dr. He was unwell after eating chicken/pork at the buffet. He is still very unwell to this day and as lost nearly stone half in weight in which he did not need to lose our Dr assessed him yesterday and the situation is not very good. He still as severe stomach cramps constant diarrhoea along with sweats and constant headaches a stool sample was also sent to determine what bacteria is present. I witnessed on several occasions at beach café staff in female toilets staff not washing hands after using the toilet just walking straight back into the serving area and I was stood there watching them walk back out. From this day I did not eat at the beach Café only having coffee. We went on several trips which were arranged by Alex a lifeguard on the beach he was recommended by several other quests at the resort. The beach is fantastic white sand and lovely warm water and is spotless. I would also like to give a big thank you to Daniel who works at the Tides Beach Bar he is so hard working pleasant and cheerful he looked after us the 14 days Dan your an asset to the Royalton keep up the hard work. Activities on beach are ok but it is annoying when staff pester you constantly to put a 5 star review on Trip advisor about them even at one point taking my phone stating she will write it for me or tell me what to write. I had no interaction with this person so I asked why I should write a review on her(Veronica) this is bit annoying when pestered to do a review. I observed her going round several guests demanding the same. A lot of things need to improve here and I do believe Tui should stop selling this hotel until the food and hygiene situation improve. There were a lot of guests complaining of upset stomachs after eating at the buffet. The entertainment was good. I would return but only if the above improved. Cuba is beautiful.

Transfer from airport to hotel was c.45mins with an excellent tour rep providing some useful info especially currency Once arrived at the hotel, greeted with some light refreshments and check-in was smooth Thereafter escorted to our room [not experienced in any other destination hotel where you have to locate the room ourself] The room [Junior Suite with Balcony, in a quite area away from the main hotel facilities, c3min walk from main reception] was very clean and well ventilated, with the usual towel deco on the bed The overall room experience was good, plenty of space, very comfortable bed with a large bathroom Room was cleaned every day and bath towels replaced when needed Dieny the head butler made us very welcome and never shyed away if we needed anything. He has a very polite character with a great smile Knowing from the booking that it was our wedding anniversary, he arranged for us to choose a themed restaurant, which was very thoughtful Thank You Dieny, much appreciated! Hotel facilities all round was excellent, from the many clean pools, deck chairs and most important of all the staff, very polite and helpful The main restaurant again had many food choices from meats, fish, veg [though food was somewhat bland, was expecting to be a little spicy] and off course the many deserts Themed restaurants: Italian, Mexican, Caribbean and Seafood BBQ's once a week with fresh lobsters, cocktails, beach restaurant and many more Great entertainment all round from beach activities [dancing classes, volleyball etc ..] but one downside, the evening shows started at 9.30pm, a bit late though! The Jazz bar was a nice place to have a quite drink with a pianist playing some lovely jazz themes The beach and the sea is to die for, it was excellent, very warm waters, golden sandy beaches, what more can you ask for! Overall a wonderful experience and would thoroughly recommend the Royalton Hicacos Valdero Hotel and Spa, Cuba The 10 day break was just about right [arrival late March22]

I don’t like this hotel at all. The service is really slow, Its good only if you tip the staff all the time. Upon arrival I entered the room at 4.45 PM which is extremely late. I dont see the reason for the late entrance in the room as hotel has so many available rooms and a lot of people, who were waiting long hours to get to the room, were angry because of too late check in. Every day the cleaning lady used to clean our room in leas the 45 minutes so if the check out is at 12 pm what it takes so long to let people in room before 5pm? Why manager doesn’t employ more staff to clean the rooms, so check in could be much faster and easier?And customers can be happy! I did my check out at 09am as i wanted to leave the hotel as soon as possible! The Quality of the food is good but the buffet Area is not well organized. It’s too crowded, there are long lines, the staff are unfriendly when they serve the food. The manager needs to put more effort in this hotel to improve every segment of the service in this hotel! I wont come back for sure! I want to recommend hotel Royal Paradisus in Varadero, service is the best, the staff is very kind and rooms are 100m2 with outside shower, and the price is as same as this hotel and you have free lobster every night for dinner!

My wife and I stayed from May 25 to June 2, 2022 and we absolutely had the best time. Our housekeeper for room 3017 (forgive me if I spell her name incorrectly) Meylanie was nothing short but AMAZING. Not only did she do a great job cleaning our room but every day when we came back we had something special left for us and on one occasion, flower petals all over the King Size bed we had and a very nice warm Bubble bath with flower petals awaiting my wife. Our Butlers Betty and Roberto went out of their way to make our stay extra special. From organizing our dinners to getting us invited to the Gala dinner at the end of our stay, arranging our trip into Varadero and always stopping to talk to us when . Hermes in the Buffet treated my wife like a Queen. Greeting her with a smile, showing her to her table, making sure she always had a cold drink and offered friendly conversation. The resort itself it superb. Not sure why people complain (guess they don't realize this is another country rebounding from the Pandemic and doing it's best with what they have). Beaches are insanely beautiful, pool areas are always kept clean and tidy, the maintenance staff go above and beyond to make the resort beautiful. The FOOD: Was fantastic. Fresh fish, seafood, BBQ Chicken, paella, veggies, fruit, breads etc. Always a great spread and with great taste. The al a carts were also really yummy and seating was never an issue and the restaurants were nicely air conditioned. Beach Bar / Restaurant served a fantastic breakfast at sunrise as well as a beautiful dinner at sunset always overlooking the ocean. Our weather even though it was a tad bit cloudy on 2 days with a bit of rain here and there was perfect. The Lifeguards on the beach were fun to kid around with and the butler service on the beach was awesome. So nice and friendly. Overall this is by far our best vacation and my wife and I will most certainly be returning. Thank you to all the amazing staff at the Royalton and we look forward to seeing you next year.
