The trip was a fair price compared to similar trips. It was a 12.5 hour day that included mostly travel. We took a boat where our seat did not have any shade in both directions, to and from the island. On the way home we chose to sit on the floor to protect us from the sun. We were offered glasses of water and soda on the boat. On the island the only chair available was broken and there was no shade. It was very hot. The staff on the island ran out of water to drink while we were there. We snorkled for about 40 minutes, the current was strong so it kept pushing us away from the boat.

          Bavaro Buggies
This 1/2 day adventure lasted from 11:35 until 4:30. It was an excellent adventure. Not too slow and not to quick. Our guide -choco-banana was excellent. During the buggy ride, there was clear and present supervision throughout. We stopped to try D.R coffee, cigars and visit a cultural environment. We were given lunch, a traditional chicken, beans with rice, plantains and salad. We stopped at a cenote, a place to swim. After lunch, we had time to go swim at a waterfall. They have showers to remove all the mud from the buggies. The prices for excursion pictures are priced high but you can buy them individually. Overall, we had fun and would definitely return for more.

I mistakenly booked this for a trip out of La Romana but this operator doesn't pick up in that area. Still waiting on my refund after contacting them and realizing my mistake.

Safety concerns, unorganized , DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
Stayed at Ocean ElFaro. We booked our excursion threw our Air Transit Rep at our Hotel. $124. US each adult. Feb 13th. Catalina Island tour, snorkeling, paddle boarding , kayak on a beach with breakfast and lunch. We started out being picked up with two other people to catch a bus which took us to this restaurant to be loaded on a catamaran . Breakfast was a bun and a drink. Half our bus was loaded on a catamaran while the other half of our bus waited, 1 hour and half . The tour guide kept saying 5 more minutes. When a new boat showed up it was NOT a catamaran at all but a small boat . For loading we had to jump over 2 other boats to get on this small boat that was to take us snorkling. It was very slipper and people were falling, they packed us in this smaller boat, There was NOT enough life jackets for everyone. The boat was overloaded and on the trip we had 25 foot waves ,very rough on a small boat, people got sea sick. I brought my own snorkling gear. But the gear they had was terrible lots of complaints from people. We only had around 15 min to half hour of snorkling. While talking to the first load on our bus who loaded the catamaran they had 1 hour more . On the island because we were so late no chairs for us. No paddle boarding too rough for kayak also. From the larger boat to get to and from the island you loaded like a fishing boat, which had NO life jackets. We were loaded so many times off and on. They said we would all go back on the large catamaran which was nice, but by this time everyone was so mad. We stopped now for lunch/dinner at the same restaurant and had an outdoor BBQ. Then loaded our bus. This tour company was not organized at all no one new which bus to get back on. The tour guide should of apologized for the boat and mix up. I travel every year and this was by far the worse excursion ever. The air transit rep at our hotel told us this was a one hour trip to Catalina Island this was NOT true. Waste of money. Would like a refund.... DO NOT recommend this tour. Very unsafe. We booked this thru our Air Transat representative at our Hotel Ocean El Faro. I left a long note to this rep before we left with our cell number on it and we never heard a word from him.

          Expect to get dirty
This excursion was so much better than I thought it was going to be. Charlie was our guide and he was very professional and helpful. He addressed the group and let us all know the rules and what to expect. Charlie and the other workers did an awesome job of keeping the group together and ensured everyone's safety! Definitely an incredible experience!!

Waste of a day and money
A trip purely to try and get you to spend more money This trip was all about taking you to places to buy things , 10 mins on a beach so no time to go in the water but full of local vendors harassing you 10 mins at the cave and all the rest just shops , Local village is just an empty theme park with actors doing a 5 minute dance looking totally disinterested Save your money for the boat trips they are amazing

          Buggy adventure
So overall good day and fun. The cave you go in on the beginning of the trip is beautiful and you can swim there, definitely worth it. Then there is tiny village where they talk about coffee and cocoa and some sampling of the products, we have done it on different tour so wasn't much invested this time, then there is local people dressed up and showing tribal dance which was kind of cool to see. Then the buggy ride, if you get the low fully open one you will get absolutely covered so be prepared to get filthy lol its good fun, but glasses doesn't cut it and you'll end up not being able to see, so I suggest bring or buy goggles, and clothes you will no longer wear for the rest of the trip... Its not a long ride on the buggies and you'll end up on Macao beach where you can wash yourself off, the beach looks dodgy with lot of people trying to sell you stuff so just mind your business and stick with the group. Also on the road while driving you'll see some real DR and the poor lifestyle, kids and women with babies begging for money, running after the buggies, they are harmless but it's hard to watch, breaks your heart, on the other hand it makes you realize how lucky we are.... I think it was good fun, if you're ready to get dirty do it!

          Buggies costa bavaro
We booked this trip and thought it would give us a chance to see other parts of the island but it was a well worn route designed to try and get tourists to spend money at set stops. There was little time at the cave and beach which in the end we were grateful for as we were hassled none stop to go in the shops/bars etc even after politely declining numerous times. The buggies were unsafe, the brakes and steering were not suitable for the road yet part of the tour took us on roads which we found extremely dangerous just travelling to and from the tour base in a minibus. There was numerous people along the route having issues with buggies not working. One buggy in the group in front of us set on fire! Luckily no one was in it when we passed it,vehicle maintenance seems to be optional! There was no information from the guides about the areas we stopped in. We had to watch for when our group moved off as no one told us how long we would have at the stop and we felt we could just end up left behind. The time spent off road was fun and you do get extremely dirty which is what we expected. The experience was just spoilt by being hassled to buy things. To be honest don’t waste your time or money do your homework as there is much better ones out there with top notch buggies unlike the death traps we were in. We booked through the rep at the hotel thinking this would result in the safest/best experience, unfortunately not.

          So Disappointed
So disappointed!! We booked this excursion on 2\17/22 for Saturday 4/2/22. We were so excited to experience Catalina Island. The driver never showed, when I was finally able to reach the number listed, I was informed that the excursion was only available on Sundays and Tuesdays. Today is Saturday. Requested a refund through trip advisor. 😭

          Waste of our last day.
*PICK A DIFFERENT EXCURSION* This experience is not designed to be improved. You are paying for a tourist trap. Your first stop is a gift shop. The salespeople were nice, but they told me I would be charged $50, but I was charged $75. Not a big issue but I hope others are aware and convert the total if using a card. The "buggies" are ruff. The gas and brakes petals had mechanical issues for the people I went with. The ignition is two exposed wires spliced together, and my engine died while driving, as did others. Each location you stop at has a short time span and you never truly get to enjoy it due to consistent solicitation. One important aspect of this excursion is that many young children will run up to your convoy while you drive through different neighborhoods. It is up to you about what you do, but I appreciated their hustle and made sure to tip each of them. However, they offer a flower in exchange for the tip and my girlfriend ended up with a bad reaction on her skin due to the flower. So, don't refrain from giving them money, but be careful with the flower. In the end, I give this experience two stars because it did what it advertised, kinda. Personally, the experience felt like I lost a day of vacation because the time could of been spent better elsewhere. My recommendation is to look into other options and spend the money on something more memorable.

          Exursion
So, we did this adventure as a family. I would like to say it was fun. I would however, like to leave a few tips on here.... 1. If you are in the 2 seat buggie, buy the goggles, and please prepare to be covered with red clay from your head to your feet! Seriously! There is nothing on you that will not be covered with muddy water, 2. The vehicles that hold more people, are lots of fun, and you dont get filthy! 3. The cave is the best! You only get a very short time there. I wish there was an option to bypass the fake, tribal dance, and chat about local coffee. No offence, it just was not something we were interested in at all. 4. Something really hard, that I think you should prepare yourself for is, there are children of all ages and sizes, that chase your buggie as you are driving. Women, holding babies were running after us, begging for money. Its heartbreaking. Its anywhere you drive on this excursion. It was an learning experience for sure for my children about other peoples lives. 5. EVERYTHING is expensive if you use a debit card. 16% of your total bill is what you are charged:-) 6. The beach they take you to at the end, is not pretty, and there are people all over the beach trying to sell you stuff. Stick to the cave and actually driving the buggies. There was a lot of stopping and some of the carts did not work so well.

We went to the pick up spot and met other folks doing the same excursion. The gentlemen showed up, looked at my ticket and said I was not going with them, I asked which company he worked for and the same company name on ticket. Oops yes we are going with them. We go and pick up other people in resorts and first stop is a bathroom break, 15 mins in :(. Of course its a boutique store where you are given a shopping basket to go pee. We get going again. We get there and a picture is taken of us, we get our bracelet, scanned, in the speedboat from shore to the catamaran. We get going on the catamaran to the island, some motor sailing involved, thats what the 2 stars is for. From the catamaran to a speedboat to the shore.
We ended up spending close to 3 hours on the island, which was cool...but the bottom of the beach has dead reefs and no sand on floor, so lots of rocks. The food is eatable at best and the bathrooms stinks. The masseuse harass you and are upset to not give you a 50$ US massage. After 3 hours its back to the speed boat and to a sandbar where you anchor and swim for 30 mins. Then we raced back against other speedboat back to the shore were some intense sales people were. We get back in the van and we are offered bottles of Mamajuana content minus liquids with our pictures on them , that they took when we left. We refused and the gentleman grabbed his bottles and went off. Finally made it back to the hotel, gone for 11hrs. In my humble opinion, just not worth it.

Do you enjoy riding a bus and a boat? This one-day tour has 5 hours of transportation; one hour of waiting; and three hours of swimming.

It starts out with a 45 min bus ride; then a 20 min wait for the boat. Then there is a one hour boat ride to a sand bar where you swim for 20 minutes.

After the swim there is another boat ride of 15 minutes to a beach on Saona Island. You spend 2.5 hours on island to swim where you are fed fish & chicken and approached by many vendors.

After the beach. You hear back to the mainland. This trip consists of A 2 hour boat ride back with music. Upon arrival you wait for 30 minutes floating to be taken to the land.

When you get to the land, you walk to the bus and wait 20 minutes. Then there is a one hour bus ride back. Our bus had screaming kids. I don’t blame the kids but it’s a heck of a long day for a baby.

Then you get back to your hotel.

While on the tour, the hosts take photos and ask for $70 for the photos. On the bus ride back they tell you they have a gift for you. They give you and empty alcohol bottle with wood chips in it and suggest u add booze. Then they ask you for $20 aster it is in your hand. Most people retune it to the tour guide.

In summary the swim was good but way too much waiting and travel time. About 5.5 hours on buses and boats for about 3 hours swimming. Better to stay at resort. Would not do again.

2 stars only because the places that we visited are truly beautiful, but the service of this company is the worst thing we have experience on any tour. Pick up time the bus didn’t have air conditioning, it was super hot, and they lie about being fixed on our first stop. VIP extra charge is not worth it at all, they tell you, you have all this extra for VIP and is only 1 plate of shrimp, and the rest is the same as everyone else. We were 4 people with VIP and when we ask for more chicken since shrimp was only that plate, they said they ram out of chicken so... yeah, also they said there will be beer and "many others drink" they only have rum and coke and soda until 1 pm is when we were able to have a beer ("it wasn't ready yet"). There are plenty of different companies that do the same tour, just pick anyone else, but this one.

Like everyone else has noted, this excursion is so beautiful. The crew is friendly, lively, and a lot of fun. The lunch was very good, and exceeded expectations for a trip like this. It is true that it takes awhile in the morning collecting all the passengers before getting to the boat, so I'd recommend hiring a private charter to go to the island if you want to avoid this and are willing to spend more money. My other call out is that they stopped at a shop on our way back for souvenir shopping and I would not buy anything at that stop, it's extremely over priced. Overall, our guides were wonderful, the setting is stunning, and the excursion was well worth it.

This was our last excursion (after having done 2 back to back) and it was the perfect way to end! This was a very relaxing and fun one! We were picked at our hotel by a small van and dropped off to get on a giant bus that took us to the beach. We waited for a bit until our speedboat arrived! I will say, the speedboat was definitely an experience 😆 it went SO fast and bumpy that everyone was holding on the the seats! It was definitely super fun and we got to see starfish in the water (since waters were very clear) and the first stop was the natural sandbar beach where we swam for 30min and drank the rum and coke provided. After, we got back on the speedboat and arrived to the island. Since our specific group had the speedboat first, we were the first to arrive to the sandbar/island which was perfect because we got to claim the beach chairs first 🙌🏻 The food, I may be biased because I’m Dominican, was SO GOOD! The beans were authentic in taste and everything else in the buffet was great! The bar was also open and included the beers and rum and coke. If you want a piña colada or a coconut drink, it will be starting at $10. The water was beautiful as well. After 2.5 to 3 hours we began to head back on a Catamaran which also included rum and coke/beer and music throughout. Since it was on the catamaran, the drive back took a while which was perfect because you got to enjoy the deep blue waters and the beautiful sights on your way back.

So here's the deal. The actual excursion from when we arrived at the marina to get on the speedboat and head to the island was absolutely fantastic. Our whole issue with the excursion was that we were the very first group picked up from our resort. We were a solid 2.5 hours getting to the marina. The bus was fine, clean, and they stopped mid-way to allow us to use the bathroom at a gas station which was surprising clean as well. We just had no idea the trip to and from the marina would take so long. So the lesson learned here is that whoever you use to get to Isla Saona make sure you completely understand the time commitment going back and forth. The trip out to the sandbar was fine and the bartender kept the drinks flowing. The island is stunning! Straight out of a postcard. We did the VIP package that included grilled lobster and upgraded alcohol-like vodka and whiskey. The catamaran ride back to the marina was a lot of fun with a lot of dancing, drinking, and music. Then we had another 2.5 hour drive back to our resort. It was a great day, but a very long day.

This is a 12 hour trip. Picking up everyone from each hotel requires a very early pick up time and about 2 hours just driving from hotel to hotel. Be a few minutes early for your pick up time so you don’t get yelled at early in the morning for being 1 minute late.

After picking up everyone at each resort, you stop at a gift shop for souvenirs, snacks and a bathroom break.

After that you head over to the port where there are a ton of vendors trying to sell you stuff. You get on a speed boat and go for about 30-45 minutes to the natural pool. The natural pool is nice and the boat staff gives you rum and coke and the photographers on the boat take lots of pictures.

Get back on the boat for another 20 minutes I think and arrive at Saona island where there is a buffet waiting do you. The food is actually pretty good. They serve beer on the island. Piña colada’s are $10. You stay in the island for about 2 hours… beautiful beach, more photos. A lot of people!

After the island you get on a catamaran for about 2 hours where its basically a booze cruise. Dancing and lots of drinking! Some people got into a fight on our trip…. This is the part that make this excursion, in my opinion, not suitable for kids. There’s no place to go to avoid the shenanigans and your children are basically watching everyone get belligerent and grind on each other with their thong bikinis. Fun for young adults without children…. I wish they would have told us ahead of time.

While at the catamaran , the photographer shows you your beautiful photos and give you an absurd price which you can negotiate. They’re such nice guys… I wish that the price would just be fair and posted so that we didn’t have to play this game.

Finally, you arrive back at the port where you get back on the bus and drive for another 2 hours dropping everyone off. They don’t warn you to use the bathroom before leaving the catamaran…. Bus driver had to stop in the middle of the road so our drunk friends could pee on the side of the road.

One more thing is that no one has any change for money so come prepared with change for tipping.

Bottom line: Long trip and would not recommend for children.

Awful experience overall. Pick up times weren’t sent over until late the night before we were being picked up. The day of, the driver showed up 20 mins ahead of schedule and called to tell me it was time to go. I told him that we weren’t ready and I would need to round up our group before we could head over. We arrived ~ 5 mins after the time specified in the email to find out the driver had left without us with no prior warning. All attempts to reach out were unsuccessful as the driver blocked my number on whatsapp. We tried to explore a date switch/refund which were both denied, would not recommend booking with this operator.

Great experience! I've read a lot comments and wasn't sure what to expect. The driver was perfectly on time, we have one transfer, but noting to complain was not more than 15 minutes waiting. Overall the transfer wasn't to long at least for as... not more than hour, hour and a half. Speed boat amaising. The island...paradise, of course the time there is limited for as was 2:30 min, but it is also enough to walk around, swimming and quick lunch. Katamaran for me was a pleaser, wasn't a big party, if you expect that you will be disappointed.
        Overall well and quick organized.

Tips: If you want the pictures from photographer they're amazing but expensive, if you're not prepared to pay better not waist your time in photosesion.

10 dollars for pinacolada is a must!

        Thanks again!

We had a blast! But a couple of tips first: contact operator about your exact time and place of the pick up (you’ll see their whatsapp number in your booking); get a bottle of water with you to stay hydrated (they serve only coke and rum through the day); take a long sleeve shirt and sunblock (that boat and beach are two frying pans); take some cash if you want to get a pina colada, sea shell bracelet, lobster or coconut oil while on Saona.
This trip was great. Our pick up was ~25 minutes late but that’s nothing in DR. Dominican “5 minutes” is an hour in the rest of the world so be mentally prepared for extended wait time. Our guides spoke English, French and German, they took care of our safety while on the speed boat, took us to the natural swimming pool and to the starfish shore, which was a nice addition to our itinerary. Lunch was provided on the island, and it was great. We returned back to the port on a party boat and boy it was AMAZING! The crew kept us entertained, drinks were served and it was ~2 hours of dancing and enjoying the view of the coastal line.
