A newly unsealed court transcript appears to support claims that the judge who oversaw Roman Polanski’s case broke promises related to the disgraced director’s sentencing, The Associated Press reports. Polanski admitted having sex with a 13-year-old in 1977.
The transcript comes from closed-door testimony given by former Deputy District Attorney Roger Gunson in 2010 about the conduct of the now-deceased Judge Laurence Rittenband. According to Gunson, Rittenband told both him and Polanski’s lawyer that the director would get a slightly longer sentence than he’d originally been promised. This,...

The Paramount Presents Series recently released The Golden Child on Blu-ray and it is a beautiful disc to behold even though the movie has a few flaws.
It’s 1986 and Eddie Murphy is riding high on the success of Beverly Hills Cop, 48 Hours and Trading Places and it is time to create another blockbuster for this talented star. What do you do? Well, let’s keep the same formula and feature Murphy as a hip, wisecracking hero who this time finds lost children. Then, throw in a bit of martial arts in the style of John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China and add some Asian mysticism that reminds viewers of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Charlotte Lewis‘ case is a bit of a sad one since apart from an accusation levied against Roman Polanski, the famed director that was accused of raping a teenager and then fled to France. Unfortunately for Lewis, she didn’t get whatever justice she was after and instead had her life ruined for the most part since the media and those that were defending Polanski managed to discredit and debunk her claims when it was found that she did an interview claiming she wanted to be Polanski’s mistress. That kind of evidence is a bit damning, but it was also the

Lenny Henry, the British comedian, actor and diversity campaigner, is collaborating with A Very English Scandal scribe Russell T Davies on a deeply personal ITV drama series inspired by his mother’s move from Jamaica to the UK in the 1950s.
Henry’s Douglas Road Productions and Tiger Aspect — both part of the Banijay group — will make Three Little Birds for ITV, with Davies consulting on the script and serving as an executive producer.
The six-part series will narrate a Windrush-era story of two sisters, Leah and Chantrelle, and their Bible-loving acquaintance, Hosanna, as they leave the Caribbean to embark on a new life in Britain.
On arriving in Notting Hill, they quickly realize that London is not for them and flee to the Midlands, overcoming racism and integration issues to make a new home for themselves.

Roman Polanski's Paris screening of An Officer and a Spy was shut down by protestors. Around 40 women showed up and blocked the entrance to the theater on Tuesday night, which led to the shutdown of the screening. The women were all dressed in black and "equipped with red smoke-generating canisters." In addition, some of the women held large cards with the names of women who have come forward to accuse Polanski of sexual assault.
The demonstration lasted for about an hour in front of the theater and wound down after the screening of An Officer and a Spy was canceled. The official premiere was held on the same evening, but in another location in Paris. The official screening, which Roman Polanski attended, was at the Ugc Normandie cinema on the Champs-Elysées. Former German actress Renate Langer has issued an official statement accusing Roman Polanski of raping her when she was only 15 years old. The report was filed to the Swiss police and says the encounter took place at the director’s home in Gstaad, Switzerland in February 1972, The New York Times reports.
According to the newspaper, Langer said she never reported the 1972 rape to the police or brought up the encounter with friends and family because she did not want to upset her parents. The 61-year-old actress later confided in her boyfriend years later.
“My mother would have had a heart attack,” she told The Times. “I felt ashamed and embarrassed and lost and solo.”

A third woman has come forward to accuse embattled director Roman Polanski of having “sexually victimized” her when she was 16 years old. The new claims date back to 1973, when the alleged victim — going by the name “Robin M.” — was just a teenager. The woman made her accusations during a morning press conference, held at the Los Angeles office of lawyer Gloria Allred.
Robin M. did not take any questions during the press conference, and both she and Allred declined give further details on the alleged crime and how the young woman first met Polanski. In 2010, Allred also represented Charlotte Lewis, an actress who accused Polanski of sexually abusing her when she was 16 during the making of the film “Pirates.” Lewis did not file charges at the time.

'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl': Johnny Depp as Capt. Jack Sparrow. 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' review: Mostly an enjoyable romp (Oscar Movie Series) Pirate movies were a Hollywood staple for about three decades, from the mid-'20s (The Sea Hawk, The Black Pirate) to the mid-to-late '50s (Moonfleet, The Buccaneer), when the genre, by then mostly relegated to B films, began to die down. Sporadic resurrections in the '80s and '90s turned out to be critical and commercial bombs (Pirates, Cutthroat Island), something that didn't bode well for the Walt Disney Company's $140 million-budgeted film "adaptation" of one of their theme-park rides. But Neptune's mood has apparently improved with the arrival of the new century. After the long slog "Once Upon A Time" took through a grim and colorless Neverland (sorry, Peter Pan, but you kind of creeped us out), the show's latest Big Bad has been a delicious and welcome change of direction. Played by Rebecca Mader (Charlotte Lewis on "Lost"), the Wicked Witch/Zelena has emerged as a villain we love to hate -- and more importantly, a villain who just might be a worthy adversary for Regina, the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla). In real life, Mader couldn't be more charming. We talked about being green, going "toe-to-toe" with Parrilla, and why it's fun to play off of a dot instead of a monkey. You look great in green. It's really your color. Why, thank you. The make-up must be so helpful in creating this iconic character, but is it hard to get off? Between the hair and the costume and the hat and then the lighting,...

Tina Fey’s hit comedy series may be counting down until the end, but don’t you count 30 Rock as down and out just yet. There is still some fight in the wonderfully funny and critically acclaimed NBC charmer. In fact, a femme fatale has just been announced as joining the swan song season. Say hello to Rebecca Mader.

As originally conceived, The Golden Child was supposed to be a serious action drama about a Tibetan holy child kidnapped by evil forces who want to use a mystical dagger to sacrifice him to demonic spirits. It was supposed to star Mel Gibson and be directed by John Carpenter. For reasons unknown, Gibson passed on the project, and it went to Eddie Murphy. The script was then rewritten -- and mostly improvised -- as an action comedy, which was more suited to Eddie Murphy's style and built in audience. And thus Eddie Murphy became Chandler Jarrell, a detective who specializes in searching for missing children, and who is hired by a mysterious Tibetan woman because he is believed to be The Chosen One. It was an odd choice for Murphy, who truly was The Chosen One at that point in his career. He had just finished three incredibly successful films: 48 Hrs,...

Robert Harris is concerned that the media is out to get Roman Polanski – but his own argument doesn't add up
Robert Harris believes that a "media lynch mob is bent on destroying" Roman Polanski.
In a touching display of generosity to his friend and colleague, Harris describes Polanski as "fighting extradition to the United States after his 1977 conviction for unlawful sex with a minor," which is certainly a genteel way of noting that an admitted sex offender who drugged and assaulted a child continues to deny justice to his victim and the community by refusing to return to the United States and serve out the sentence for his crime. Harris is no doubt a very good friend to Polanski.
He also appears to be very adept at victim-blaming.

Stop me if you've heard this one before: Roman Polanski is accused of molesting a young girl. Anyone who's watched or read the news for longer than a few minutes this weekend probably knows that 42-year-old Charlotte Lewis -- who was once 16-year-old Charlotte Lewis, drop-dead-gorgeous star of Polanski's unmemorable 1986 film Pirates and who later became the only thing worth looking at in The Golden Child -- is now coming forward to claim that Polanski essentially raped her during an early audition for his movie. Why she waited 26 years to speak up about an incident that she says she'll "never forgive Polanski" for is one of those things I'm not going to dare get into. Whether you're willing to believe her story now, after all this time, kind of cuts to the core of childhood sex abuse...

Woody Allen has spoken out in defence of director Roman Polanski - insisting the embattled moviemaker has already "suffered" and "paid his due" in relation to his ongoing child sex case.
Polanski is currently under house arrest in Switzerland fighting extradition to America following his arrest in Zurich in September.
U.S. lawmakers want the star returned so he can be handed his punishment for having unlawful sex with a minor in 1977 after he fled the country on the eve of his sentencing.
A group of moviemakers backed Polanski by signing a petition at the Cannes Film Festival in France this week (beg10May10) urging Swiss officials to reject pressure from America to extradite him.
And Allen is adamant the director is deserving of the support because he has already paid a high price for his crime.
The 74-year-old actor/director tells French radio station Rtl, "It's something that happened many years ago... He's an artist, he's a nice person, he did something wrong and he paid for it. They (his critics) are not happy unless he pays (for) the rest of his life. They would be happy if they could execute him in a firing squad. Enough is enough."
Allen's comments come after fresh allegations against Polanski emerged on Friday from British actress Charlotte Lewis, who went public with claims she was abused by the director when she was just 16 years old - several years after he skipped his sentencing in America and fled to France.

British actress Charlotte Lewis is adamant she will "never forgive" Roman Polanski for allegedly abusing her when she was just 16 years old - insisting the incident ruined her life.
Lewis, who appeared in Polanski's 1986 film Pirates, held a news conference on Friday, claiming the director took advantage of her "in the worst way" at his apartment in France when she was just a teenager.
The alleged incident came several years after Polanski fled the U.S. for France, skipping sentencing after pleading guilty to a charge of unlawful sex with 13-year-old Samantha Geimer in 1977.
Lewis, now 42, has given an interview to Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper, alleging her encounter with Polanski in 1983 affected all her future relationships and ruined her Hollywood career as she sank into drug abuse the 1990s.
She tells the publication, "I know I should have gone to the relevant authorities at the time but I was scared and ashamed. I somehow thought it was my fault. He sexually abused me and manipulated me in the worst way. He has scarred me and the experience has definitely put a strain on my life. I was recently engaged to a lovely man, but I would often clam up physically and I don't think I am very good in relationships. I will never forgive Polanski for what he has done to me. I'll never know if my life would have been different if this had not happened. There needs to be some justice. I'm telling the truth and Roman Polanski knows I'm telling the truth."
And Lewis is fuming about the number of high-profile Hollywood stars who have come out in support of Polanski, adding, "I've been angry with some of the people in Hollywood who have spoken out in support of Polanski. Hollywood is giving the wrong message."
Lewis says she has met with Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney David Walgren to report her allegations.
