The family of Charles James Mullan II, born December 02, 1940, confirms his peaceful passing-away at his home, age 81, on Monday May 02, 2022. Most commonly known as Jim,
He is proceeded in death by both of his parents, Charles James Mullan I and Martha Mary Schadt, and his half-brother, William (Bill) Reed.
Meeting his high school sweetheart, Jim proudly graduated from Alleghany High School in 1958 and married Thelma Mae Harvey the same year. Then in August, he enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 18 and completed basic combat training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. In February 1959, Private Mullan completed the Dental Assistant program at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam, Houston, TX. Not long later, Jim was deployed to Korea, where he served as a dental assistant for a year before returning to Cumberland in the spring of 1960. The same year, Jim started at The Cumberland Times News, where he worked until retirement, at the age of 58.
Affectionately nicknamed 'Pappy' by his grandchildren, Jim found himself enjoying every golfing adventure, especially his trips to Myrtle Beach, SC, as well as a game of marbles, set-back, poker, or any card game, was branded a 'foodie' by his loved ones, has been known to hit the shuffleboard tables, played baseball at Cavanaugh Field, and often went fishing, seasonal hunting, and camping.
On October 10, 2010, Jim married Carole, who honeymooned on a boating trip to Bermuda, before becoming stepfather to Martin and Mara. He named Sommerset, PA, as one of his favorite golfing areas, adding to a long list of hobbies for a man who loved life as much as he loved to laugh. When Jim wasn't cracking a joke or watching an old Western movie, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Alhambra, Special Olympics, and Shriners, and always looked forward to seeing his best friend, Jimmy Hudson.
