Bindi Irwin and husband Chandler Powell are the cutest couple. They spend their days at the Australia Zoo (a wildlife sanctuary owned by the Irwins) carrying on the legacy of Bindi’s father—the late, iconic Steve Irwin a.k.a “The Crocodile Hunter.”

The two grew their conservationist family with their first child, a baby girl named Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, in March 2021. After months of posting adorable images of all the animals at the zoo next to Irwin’s growing bump, the couple's feed is now filled with heart-warming family moments and snippets of Grace growing up alongside wildlife.

So, in admiration of this mini crocodile-hunting family, we're taking a look back at Bindi and Chandler's relationship.

  • Bindi Irwin first met Chandler Powell when she was leading a tour at the Australia Zoo in 2013.
  • The pair started dating in 2015 right before Bindi was selected as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.
  • Chandler moved to Australia to be with Bindi in 2018.
  • The two announced their engagement the day after Bindi's 21st birthday in 2019.
  • On March 25th, 2020, Bindi and Chandler got married during an intimate ceremony at the Australia Zoo.
  • Exactly one year after they tied the knot, the couple introduced their first daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, into the world.

2013: They Met at the Australia Zoo

While on a trip to Australia for a national wakeboarding competition, Powell decided to pay a visit to the Irwin's Australia Zoo located on Queenland’s Sunshine Coast. Bindi happened to be leading the zoo tours that day. “It just so happened that Bindi was giving tours that day,” he told People. “I’m like, ‘Wow she is amazing.’”

She even posted their meeting to Instagram, writing “Legendary wakeboarder Chandler Powell and his beautiful family came into @AustraliaZoo yesterday. Wonderful Wildlife Warriors!”

After staying in touch for two years after their initial meeting, the two went public with their relationship. Soon after, Bindi was selected for Dancing With the Stars and Powell became her biggest supporter. He even surprised her by traveling to LA to watch her perform. She ended up taking home the big mirror ball trophy.

2017: Chandler Becomes a Crocodile Hunter

Powell attended the Irwin’s annual crocodile research trip and held his own (no easy feat in this wildlife family).

“Completed my first head jump yesterday on Madison the croc,” he wrote on Instagram. “Definitely one of the most thrilling experiences! @australiazoo has the best and most experienced croc team in the world, thanks for letting me be a part of it and showing me the ropes (literally).”

The wakeboarder packs his bag (with lots of khaki, we’d assume) and moves to the Australia Zoo to be with Bindi and learn more about wildlife.

“He’s done so well, I think he’s passed the Irwin family khaki test,” Bindi told People at the time. “We’ve had him jumping on crocodiles and feeding alligators.” She added, “I think I have found my one, and I’m so lucky. He is always encouraging me to follow my dreams, reminding me to stand up for what I believe in.”

In October 2018, the family also landed a new show called Crikey! It’s the Irwins, with Powell making frequent appearances on the show.

July 24, 2019: Bindi Turns 21

The night before Bindi’s 21st birthday, Chandler took to Instagram for a sweet tribute to his girlfriend.

“Beautiful Bee, I love you so much,” he wrote. “You’re my best friend and whole world. I can’t wait to celebrate your birthday tomorrow at #AustraliaZoo. Here’s to another year and beyond of life changing adventures together.”

July 25, 2019: They're Engaged!

The day after Bindi's birthday, the couple shared that Chandler popped the question. She shared the news to Instagram and gave us a close-up look at her gorgeous ring with an oval center stone.

“July 24th 2019 On my birthday I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life,” she wrote. “Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you and every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure and true happiness. I’m so looking [forward] to spending our forever together as your wife. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose and unconditional love. — Now let’s get married already!”

December 4, 2019: Nostalgic Flashback Photo

On December 4, 2019, Bindi shared a sweet photo of her leaning her head against Chandler on her Instagram profile. She captioned it, "I love this flashback photo. September 2015, @ChandlerPowell visiting me in LA during my time with the Dancing With The Stars fam. He'd help me bandage my feet and find my favourite snacks. I think I've always known I'd marry him one day," followed by a red heart emoji.

March 25, 2020: The Two Tie the Knot

On March 25, the couple married in an intimate ceremony at the Australian Zoo without any guests (except Bindi's mom and brother). She shared a sweet photo from the day to Instagram.

“We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend,” she wrote. “There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now. We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding. This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe.”

August 11, 2020: They’re Expecting!

On August 11, Bindi and Chandler announced they were expecting with the cutest Instagram post of the two holding up a tiny baby-sized khaki shirt.

“Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021," Bindi wrote. “Chandler and I are proud to announce that we’re expecting! It’s an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you.”

"March 25, 2021. Celebrating the two loves of my life. Happy first wedding anniversary to my sweetheart husband and day of birth to our beautiful daughter," she wrote alongside a sweet photo of the two holding their new daughter and a photo of her name, date and time of birth, and measurements. She went on to share the special meaning of her name—including how it's a tribute to her dad.

"Grace Warrior Irwin Powell. Our graceful warrior is the most beautiful light," she wrote. "Grace is named after my great-grandmother, and relatives in Chandler’s family dating back to the 1700s. Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad and his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior. Her last name is Powell and she already has such a kind soul just like her dad."

She concluded the post sharing how happy the couple is feeling. "There are no words to describe the infinite amount of love in our hearts for our sweet baby girl. She chose the perfect day to be born and we feel tremendously blessed."

August 23, 2022: Honoring Her Family

We call mum and dad, Bunny and Grandpa Crocodile with Grace. She loves them (and koalas) dearly. On every zoo walk she searches for pictures of her grandparents and it is beyond beautiful."
