Cesc Fabregas fuming at key decision as Arsenal lose to Manchester City

Former Arsenal midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, was far from impressed with the refereeing on display as the Gunners lost out in heartbreaking fashion to Manchester City this afternoon.

A late goal from Rodri ensured City took all three points away from The Emirates. Arsenal had initially led through Bukayo Saka, before a contentious penalty from Riyad Mahrez levelled proceedings. Bernardo Silva was adjudged to have been fouled by Granit Xhaka after a VAR referral. However, some were still less than convinced.

One of those to be left baffled by the decision was former Gunner, Cesc Fabregas. Taking to Twitter, the Spaniard was fuming with the decision and let his feelings known in a simple tweet during the game.

Fabregas is an avid follower of the Gunners and frequently takes to Twitter to share his thoughts. Like so many Arsenal fans, he was left perplexed today. Overall, though, he was disappointed. And to be fair to him, he did credit City for being excellent in midfield in another tweet.

Defeat for Arsenal means West Ham can move within a point of the Gunners with a win against Crystal Palace today.

TBR’s View: Arsenal Right To Be Annoyed But Poor Discipline A Problem

While VAR had its say in this game again and Arsenal have a right to be annoyed, the fact is that they lost discipline at a crucial point of the game. Gabriel, for a start, was ridiculous with his yellow cards.

Beyond that, Granit Xhaka was caught out by Silva and didn’t need to given the ref a decision to make. Finally, Gabi Martinelli missed a sitter to put them in front as well.

Fabregas does have a point here to be angry. But ultimately, it was a penalty. It’s probably more the fact Martin Odegaard didn’t get one of his own that’s stirred the pot.
