Four Wins Highlight Day One For Bronchos

Central Oklahoma Is Second In Team Scoring At The PV Relays In Texas

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Central Oklahoma is in second place after scoring 103 team points on the first day of the PV Relays at Prairie View A&M University.

The Bronchos picked up four wins and scored points in every event Friday. Host PVAMU is in first with well over 200 points. Texas Southern (54), Huston-Tillotson (30), Southwestern Christian College (24), and North American and Wiley (two points each) are also competing in the two-day event this weekend.

Saturday's action begins just after 10 a.m.

Dahsauni Lyday won the shot put Friday morning, throwing 13.54 meters on her first toss of the day. That mark, 44 feet, 5 inches, was enough to win the day. Abigail Kelly finished third, a season-best for the freshman, with an 11.38-meter shot put on her second attempt of the day.

Both came back for the discus later Friday and finished second and fourth respectively. Lyday threw 40.60 meters on her sixth and final throw to get second. Kelly hit 31.20 meters on her first attempt to score fourth place.

Lyday wrapped up her big day with the hammer throw, where she won a second title. The senior from Wagoner, Oklahoma threw 47.08 meters on her fourth attempt, besting the next best throw of the day by almost nine meters.

Lyday threw for stadium records in all three events, and will keep the two marks in the shot put and hammer throw. The senior finished second in the shot put and hammer last week at North Texas, and now has two wins and another runner-up throw in the second meet of her last collegiate season.

Mattison Thetford picked up her first win of the season in the pole vault. The sophomore from Moore cleared 3.15 meters after passing on several heights. She passed again on 3.22m, cleared 3.29m, and then 3.36m, before ending her day there.

Thetford won her third career pole vault event with the fourth-highest vault of the sophomore's Outdoor career.

Kelsey Drapeau picked up a second-place finish in the long jump, hitting 5.65 meters on her third attempt. Drapeau was 0.15 meters off the winning jump to round out UCO's field events for the weekend.

Sai Brookins-Fleming won the 400-meter race with a time of 56.86 seconds, earning the freshman her first career Outdoor win. Fellow freshman Kerrigan Huynh finished fourth with a time of 58.67 seconds, and Reta Ojene took seventh with a time of 1:01.31, to give UCO three point scorers in the event.

Jakayla Swanson led a contingent of sprinters in the 100 on Friday. She finished fourth in 12.05 seconds. Mikayla Stephenson took 11th (12.78s), Drapeau took 12th (12.82), and Karly Clemons (13.19) also competed.

UCO's largest contingent came in the 200-meter dash. Brookins-Fleming took second in this race, crossing the finish line in 24.65 seconds. Swanson was right behind her in third at 25.07 seconds. Huynh gave UCO three in the top ten with a 10th-place finish in 26.26 seconds.

Ojene finished 13th (26.90), Stephenson finished 14th (26.98), and Clemons finished 19th (28.06) in the event.

Genevieve Young finished third in the 800, crossing the finish line in 2:23.14 to score points for the Bronchos.

UCO hurdler Deriayah Lee took third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.84. Kylee Smith took sixth in the 1,500 with a time of 5:44.49.

The Bronchos have two relay teams competing Saturday afternoon, beginning with the 4x100 at 2:10 p.m., and the 4x400 at 5:15 p.m. Lee will also compete in the 100-meter hurdles at 2:30 p.m.
