The Xx unique make-up is an inadvertent second nature marriage of 2009's urban/guitar tribes, in one corner fluttering new wave indebted reverberation, in the other, plumes of post-dubstep sub-bass and figuratively, their defining core of rich R&B vocal textures. The enveloping vocal partnership of Romy and Oliver is one that would've dropped-jaws in any decade this century, and set amidst a shivering soundscape of beats and plucks, their bedroom-reared concrete-soul is being justly heralded as the UK's most original and treasured alt. pop artifact of late.

| The Brits are at it ... AGAIN! I havent heard an LP that sounded as good as this since Vampire Weekend. Its influences on its sleeve are Pixies; Interpol; Love Spit Love; Romeo Void; Shriekback; Aaliyah; The Cure; and Young Marble Giants. If there are any fans of indie rock still out there, please pick this LP up! Its a winner! By gaffaw (Edmonton, AB, CANADA) |

What do you get when you add a tattooed bald folk singing music teacher from Boston, a charismatic Abercrombie model with a loud mouth from Long Island, and a Jerk from Detroit? This list could go on, but through it persevered the three kings: Gus Colarusso on lead vocals and bass; Rick Kovac on backing vocals and guitar; and Justin Doig on backing vocals and drums. Over the next year and a half this band would undergo member changes, girl fights, throwing knives, crazy roommates, bathtub sleeping beauties, car accidents, fat in-bread promoters, trucks running over guitars and bass players, radio DJ's losing their minds, and dirty used car salesman. "Sometime in late January of 2003 I got a phone call from this guy asking 'Is this the Gus I know from that band Die Screaming' and of course I said yes, and that's when it all really began!"- Gus Colarusso The ...

MGMT is: Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, two psychic pilgrims whose paths first intersected in the green pastures of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, circa 2002. Forty years after the Summer of Love (and 30 years after the Summer of Hate), MGMT is celebrating the grand re-opening of the third eye of the world with Oracular Spectacular, an enigmatic and prophetic collection of hallucinatory sounds and hook-riddled Pop tones for the new millennium. The pair was drawn to the music of other duos and found themselves incorporating the implications of the hallucinatory power-twee of the Incredible String Band, the roaring subway minimalist Electronica of Suicide, the silky Pop-Soul of Hall & Oates, the pulsing narcotic trance of Spacemen 3, the avant-garde Industrial romanticism of Royal Trux and much more into the constantly evolving sounds of MGMT.
