CBS has picked up its latest original summer drama series Zoo for a second season to air in summer 2016. Zoo was considered a lock for renewal as it was the strongest ratings performer of the three CBS summer dramas and ranked as the most watched scripted summer series of 2015. The oldest of the three, Under The Dome, ended its run in August. The fate of the third series, Extant, has not been determined, though the cancellation of Under The Dome was believed to have improved its renewal chances — also boosted by the star power and international appeal of Halle Berry. Still, its future remains uncertain with discussions continuing.

Zoo joins new comedic thriller drama BrainDead, from Robert and Michelle King, which is set to launch next summer. Zoo is the only CBS summer series to stream on Netflix, with the second season also set to run there. (All other CBS summer dramas, including BrainDead, are on Amazon Prime).

Based on the No. 1 bestseller by James Patterson, Zoo, from CBS TV Studios, is a global thriller about a wave of violent animal attacks against humans across the planet. Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Scott Rosenberg, Michael Katleman, James Mangold, Cathy Konrad, James Patterson, Bill Robinson, Leopoldo Gout and Steve Bowen are executive producers.
