Women’s Tennis: Macalester to Host St. Catherine in MIAC Quarterfinals

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team secured the No. 4 seed and will begin its MIAC Playoff run on Tuesday April 30. The Scots host St. Catherine at Hayden Courts at 3:30 pm.
 
Coached by Ted Lauer, Macalester finished the season 11-6 (6-4 MIAC). This will be the Scots' fifth appearance in the MIAC Playoffs since the playoffs began in 2007. Earlier this season, on March 1, the Scots defeated St. Catherine, 7-2. Macalester secured all three doubles points with pairs of senior Sydney Ellison (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park) and sophomore Elizabeth Trevathan (St.  Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) at No. 1, seniors Amanye Reynolds (St. Paul, Minn./Harding) and Meg Ulrich (Carlisle, PA./Carlisle) at No. 2, and sophomore Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) and junior Megan Twomey (Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) at No. 3 doubles. Reynolds, Ulrich, Trevathan, and Haugen also won their singles matches. The Wildcats secured the fifth seed this season, posting a record of 11-5 (6-4 MIAC).
 
The other quarterfinals match will be played between No. 6 Saint Benedict at No. 3 Bethel. The winners of the quarterfinal matches will advance to the semifinal on Thursday May 2. No. 1 Carleton will host the lowest remaining seed in Northfield at 3:30 pm while No. 2 Gustavus will host the higher remaining seed in St. Peter at 3:30 pm. The semifinals winners will meet at the highest remaining seed for the MIAC Playoff Championships on Saturday April 4 at 1:00 pm.
