It is truly amazing and something not to miss! There was construction outside of the church, so be aware, but once inside, it will take your breath away!Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten June 15, 2023
- GlobetrottingSwedeParis, France3,277 contributionsOrnate churchThis is an ornate church similar to what you would find in Europe. Trivia: one of the towers is lower because the hill on which it is built couldn’t support the weight of the higher tower… Good location within the heart of the old city. OK for a short visit on a walking tour, but nothing spectacular.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 21, 2023
- MikeyD7 contributionsBeautiful ChurchWe want to Sunday Mass (in French) and found the church to be absolutely beautiful. I cannot imagine how this church was built as it looks today. There is a small museum at the rear of church which was interesting. We touched the "Holy Door" and took a picture (they will explain this to you while they're in the small shop and it is a "Big Deal". It is worthwhile to spend the time visiting this church, no matter your own religion.Visited September 2023Written September 27, 2023

It was first full day in Québec City and we were doing an orientation tour of Old Québec. After checking out the icon Château Frontenac, we went into the Cathedral and it was so beautiful - the architecture, the stained glass windows. We unexpectedly stumbled upon The Holy Door and I was thankful with the grace. Not to miss!!Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 30, 2023

Building itself less impressive from the outside than expected but the inside made up for it. Very peaceful, really ornate too. Lit a couple of candle for the recently departed.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 10, 2023

The site dates to the 1600s! It is a beautiful building and the interior of the church is magnificent. We were only able to spend a short time here but it is certainly worth a good visit.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 17, 2023
- TERRAvelistaLondon, United Kingdom17,562 contributionsBeautiful .... and free to accessGorgeous cathedral and free to access (unlike Notre Dame in Montreal where there is an entry fee of 18 CAD) with the lines you normally find in more northern European cathedrals as opposed of the Portuguese or some Spanish cathedrals for example. I liked it's simplicity with only some golden adornments around the altar area besides the usual stained glass typically found here. Quiet, despite being located in the busy part of the old Quebec town and just beautiful.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 29, 2023
- wireless_in_CAUnited States5,052 contributionsWalked Through The Holy DoorThis beautiful church was our first stop in Quebec. The Holy Door was the only one outside of Europe and available to walk through until the end of 2024. It was a very heavy door! It was best to enter the church via the Holy Door since it had its own separate approach from the street. However, if there would not be anyone to stop you if someone decided to exit via the Holy Door. Inside was a very ornate altar and beautiful decor. There was also a detailed exhibition about St Francis De Laval, the first bishop of Quebec. I tried to use the Balado Discovery app during the self guided tour but it did not work all the time.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 19, 2024

We have been to many cathedrals but the ceiling/vault (?_) had a beautiful purplish tint and imparted it such an amazing pious quality that made you truly appreciate that you were in a sacred space. Really impressed my wife and I. Amazing place to visit.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 21, 2024

Gorgeous Catholic Basilica in the heart of Old Quebec City. It has beautiful stained glass windows and the altar and ceiling facade are spectacular. It was originally built in 1647 but has burned down twice and been rebuilt- the last time in 1922. Definitely a must see. There is no fee to enter but you are encouraged to light a candle in memory or in honour or just to pray. The small candles are $2, large are $5.

Came here in early November, not exactly the height of tourist season. It allowed me to spend some quiet times in this beautiful church without being disturbed by tours.
However, I would definitely recommend it any time of the year!

This 300+ year old cathedral still plays a large role in the lives of Québec's Catholic community. Services are held regularly, and I got a glimpse of the interior whilst on a guided tour. It is amazingly beautiful, and the sanctity of the place is palpable. Well worth the visit.

Easy to find walking distance from the Chateau ..was not open on a Saturday but got to visit from 12 to 4 on a Sunday. make sure you take in the movie theatre talk at the back about the priest Laval. It tells all about his efforts to expand the church and really help people as a missionary. It was soooo interesting. The Museum for the basilica was closed. Very beautiful for sure we got spoiled however seeing the Basilica St Anne to Beaupre which is much grander. make sure to check that one out too

Such a beautiful church with lots of history. The altar is very beautiful. A must see place. You can also see Bishop Laval final resting place. The church has a museum behind the altar for New France history

You cannot visit the Haute-Ville part of Old Quebec and not stop in for a look around. It is a beautiful cathedral, though a bit smaller than most. We were there at a time when it was not as crowded, allowed us some quiet time to sit and enjoy the tranquility.

Hi,
Was this show held in the basilica in Quebec City or Montreal?

I don't know what "show" you are referring to. The exhibit we referenced was in the Quebec City cathedral. We did not go to Montreal. Hope this helps.

We didn't take a tour. We did our own walk and then Googled it to learn more about it. If you are looking for a tour you might try:
Tours By Locals... I have heard some good things about them.

Hello everyone!
I’m visiting Quebec City during Christmas and found out that the church will be too crowded and I really wanted to visit during Christmas like Christmas Day or eve. Can anyone assist me about this church or some other? It would be my first time that I’ll be in church on Christmas Eve so I wanted to have a special experience.
Yeah I know Christmas will be very busy so it would be great if anyone can assist me a time or something so that I can avoid crowd and could take some great pics!
Thanks!

Good luck. I am guessing it will be very busy and very crowded. We were there in the “off” season and it was packed with people. Just too beautiful.
Lower your photographic expectations and just try to soak it in. Do the best you can and get ready to take quick shots.

I Believe many of these photos, and some of these reviews are for the entirely wrong church. One review is in French, and the other is in by reviewer, Two Hundred Days... Or perhaps, this is located elsewhere within the complex?

I believe the Cathedrale mentioned above is in the Old City within Quebec City. This is within walking distance from most areas of downtown near the old city. It is also a gorgeous church.

On m'a parlé d'un concert (deux choeurs, deux orgues) devant avoir lieu à la basilique de Québec le 10 avril 2016 en soirée. Qu'en est il?

I am interested to find affordable and safe accommodation, preferably within walking distance. Thank you.

We were in Quebec City for our son's wedding in mid September. Some guests stayed just around the block from the basilica. Couldn't tell you the price or any other information, but the lady who owns the place is:

We were able to walk through the cathedral a couple of times while we were there and lots of other people were too. There is a mass each morning and one at noon....I know the doors are closed then.

Hello,
Are there any shows conducted in the church, like the ones in Basilica of Notre Dame in Montreal?
Thanks,
Vivek
