It would actually be hilarious if a new bond required approval of the Council of Living Bonds

this guy seems like one of those actors who is constantly pushed by the studios and put into big films and franchises but no one cares about

Today’s Sam Worthington?

I feel that way about all actors that suddenly find themselves on the A-list and start appearing in everything. Looking at you Pedro and Austin!

austin is certainly one. armie hammer used to be one.

What is this PR push forcing ATJ down our throats regarding Bond?

u/Plastic-Caramel3714 avatar

Have you ever seen the movie about Letterman and Leno. Leno wanted the job badly and his agent was a such cutthroat manipulator that she went on the offensive until Leno got the gig. I feel like ATJ probably wants the role and that his agent is at least partly behind all media.

Her name was Helen Kushnick. The book: The War for Late Night really digs into that whole subject.

It does feel like they're testing the waters

Dude's voice is just too high-pitched to play Bond. He sounds like David Beckham.

Plus, I can't look at him without thinking about the weird age-gap between him and his wife and the rumours behind their meeting.

Headline should be “Least-known Actor to Play Bond Approves Next Forgettable Bond Actor”

You take that back. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is a great bond film.

He also did a fantastic job in Aldo Lado’s WHO SAW HER DIE?, playing a grieving father. It’s a giallo, so it’s a pretty complicated murder mystery, but that movie has stuck with me for years.

Agreed. But still…

I’m imagining an entire board meeting of former Bond characters judging the new potentials American Idol style with the King of England sitting smugly in his bedazzled director chair, no clue wtf is happening, maybe eating an oversized lollipop.

I was kinda ok with it when I first heard of this guys name getting floated, but after the barrage of these kinds of articles I’d rather see literally anyone else as Bond but him.

Whether you liked Daniel Craig as Bond or not, he was a CHOICE. Not to mention a talented actor. When he was cast I knew him from a few films including Munich and thought “he’s an interesting direction to take the character.”

But ATJ? WTF?? Generically good looking, competent but wooden actor, nothing to set him apart. I’ve seen him in probably 10 films and have yet to form any interest or opinion except to say he’s forgettable. Terrible choice.

He disappears into his roles but not in a good way

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has gotten support from a former James Bond actor after rumors the Bullet Train star got offered to be the next 007 agent.

George Lazenby, who portrayed Bond in the 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, gave his seal of approval to Taylor-Johnson following reports he was in contention for the role.

According to a recent TMZ report, Lazenby said Taylor-Johnson would be able to “handle the stunts and all the ladies who love a man in a tux.”

Lazenby noted that he doesn’t think Taylor-Johnson has the role yet because “when he auditioned for the part back in the 1960s, he went through a bunch of different tests and auditions before he won the role.”

James Bond was most recently played by English actor Daniel Craig, who took over the role in 2006’s Casino Royale. Craig would continue portraying the spy in 2008’s Quantum of Solace, 2012’s Skyfall, 2015’s Spectre, and 2021’s No Time to Die.

Lazenby said he supported Taylor-Johnson in the role “as long as they do the character justice,” telling the actor “to be true to himself and reinvent the role to fit him.”

The role of James Bond originated in 1962 with Sean Connery in the film Dr. No. Connery would embody the character in four additional films after that, including From Russia with Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), and You Only Live Twice (1967).

Lazenby succeeded Connery in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service before Connery returned to the James Bond universe in 1971 with Diamonds Are Forever.

Other actors that have had a turn as James Bond include Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan.

Lmao the only dude that did one bond gave him the approval

Recently went back to watch some early James Bond on HBO…does…not…hold…up

Which ones? I still enjoy an old Bond simply for nostalgia.

Don’t get me wrong Goldfinger is one of my favorite movies, mainly because of the absurdity of it. I mean come on…Pussy Galore…Dr. No and Goldfinger created the cheesy international super spy trope.
