Harrah’s Columbus Prepares for Nebraska’s First Casino Opening

Harrah’s Nebraska will open for business on April 1st, after receiving clearance from the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission. This is a significant milestone as the first fully functioning casino in the state. The casino is expected to open on May 13 at 10 a.m. and run daily from 8 a.m. to 3 a.m.

Chairman Dennis Lee emphasized the unanimous support for the decision made at Friday’s session, hailing the approval as a noteworthy accomplishment. With the commission’s approval, Harrah’s Nebraska can now take its rightful place as a top gaming destination.

Premier Gaming Destination

Spanning over 28,000 square feet, Harrah’s Nebraska offers an extensive array of entertainment options, including over 500 slot machines, 14 table games, and a sportsbook accommodating 78 patrons with nine kiosks. Spearheaded by Caesars Entertainment, the project has undergone meticulous planning and development over the course of 14 months.

Commissioner Jeff Galyen emphasized the importance of synchronizing the casino’s opening with the inauguration of its accompanying race track. Nebraska regulations mandate a horse track in the host city for a casino to operate, ensuring an integrated approach to gaming and entertainment.

Along with the casino’s grand opening on May 13, the updated approval also means that Columbus’ horse track will open for business. The city will soon hold a race meet that will span fifteen days, from August 16 to September 15, solidifying its reputation as a center for gambling and horse racing.

While anticipation in Columbus is growing, information about more gambling endeavors in Nebraska was also released. With her progress updates on the WarHorse casinos in Lincoln and Omaha, Lynne McNally, CEO of the Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, offered encouraging news for the state’s gaming sector.
