Spent 3 days here following great on-line reviews. We had done extensive research. To be fair, these didn’t do the resort justice.
The resort is set privately adjacent to a large river, which wraps itself around the perfectly manicured grounds.
The apartments are secluded and huge featuring a king sized bed and huge shower. Very tastefully decorated. We spent time on the balcony from where we observed monkeys and birds including hummingbird and Toucan. Very special.
50m from our apartment was a very well equipped outdoor kitchen. Despite it being shared, we only saw one other family use it. The fridge and freezer are compartmentalised so each apt has its own shelf to store breakfast/ food products.
There were two immaculate pools on site, one with a slide and hot tub. As we were so busy during our short stay, we simply didn’t get an opportunity to use them unfortunately.
The staff are very attentive and appear on golf carts to attend to any requests. I suggest you capture a contact number on arrival as there is no reception as such.
Would definitely stay there again. Ideal for couples/ honeymooners, families and friends. So glad we chose it.

We stayed here with an Airbnb
Beautiful accommodations
Elvis was the best part of our trip!! He took care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. He went above and beyond helping out people new to Costa Rica. He was able to get us some food delivered when we needed it when we arrived late at night and answered all of our questions about the place. Excellent hospitality due to Elvis!!

This place is an amazing hidden gem. We drove up to a commercial looking building with a garage door and started to become concerned. But once we drove through the entry we were pleasantly surprised. Our bungalow was very clean and very nicely decorated. The bed was big and very comfortable. The balcony views are breathtaking. We saw monkeys and toucans while relaxing on our balcony. There are ducks and peacocks on the property as well. Our room had a remote to close the room darkening shade. A small sink, small fridge and microwave were also in our room. The large TV had Netflix. Close by there is a game room area with many games. A large pool with cute showers. A very nice basketball court. A soccer field area and volleyball area as well. A beautiful pond full of fish. A large area to relax that had a large refrigerator/freezer that we could leave food in during our stay. A stove and brick oven as well as all of the kitchen items needed to prepare food and drinks. We had fun using the water slide and relaxing in the spa pool with jet streams. And relaxing on the hammock. Angel was very helpful. He showed us where to find monkeys in the trees. He offered us eggs from the on site chickens, and brought us an organic papaya and pineapple. (Hands down the best pineapple we have ever eaten). He always had a friendly hello when we would see him on the property. This was the perfect place for our romantic 30th anniversary stay, but it would also be a great family gets away. We look forward to visiting again and hope to bring our family with next visit.

The service at this hotel was top notch. The restaurant had fantastic food and the service was a 10/10. The rooms were clean and as pictured. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. I can’t say enough about the employees. They were all very friendly and helpful. You are close enough to walk to town or you can take a cab ride which was very cheap. Don’t hesitate to stay here.

The property and room are absolutely beautiful. We did the river view room. We luckily had read reviews before coming saying that you drive up to a gate that looks like someone’s garage. It was literally shocking to see the beautiful compound that was behind it. I would’ve bet money there wasn’t all that there. It has a full kitchen with a hang out area that would be perfect for a family. The pool is beautiful and there is an awesome hot tub we used one night.

The one downside is figuring out how to contact someone. We booked this through Expedia but also saw it listed on Airbnb. This is most definitely not a hotel. There is not like a front desk you can go to for help. The first night we got there they didn’t give us the Wi-Fi password and the phone and tvs didn’t work. We got there around 7 pm and had no cell phone service so we literally had to wonder around the property to try and find someone to tell us what it was. Even with the Wi-Fi password the tv didn’t connect until our final morning and the phone never worked. They communicate through sending messages more like air bnb so if you have an immediate problem you may be sol. Yes I know, you shouldn’t be in your room, you should be exploring…but at night when we were wiped it would’ve been nice. One recommendation would be to put the password in each room. That would save a lot of headaches.

We would book this property again. We visited the springs and Tabacon, the later which we almost stayed at. We decided to save money on the room so we could spend it else where but for what you get it doesn’t feel like you sacrifice. Before booking one of the big resorts and spending significantly more despite going out and seeing the Arenal area and not enjoying the resort, consider this place— just get the Wi-Fi password when they do the room and property tour 😉

This hotel exceeded all of our expectations. The room was huge, spotlessly clean , quiet and private with a gorgeous balcony for watching the amazing wildlife. It is located just outside La Fortuna and is a gated property which made us feel very safe and secure. There are only 27 rooms on this vast plot and the gardens are just amazing. I have never seen such beautiful planting , it was like living in Jurassic Park. The staff were all smiling and friendly and a particular mention to William in the restaurant who assisted with securing a delicious GF breakfast as I have Coeliac Disease. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in La Fortuna.

We just got back from La Fortuna and we had the best time at Casa del Rio. It's a hidden gem! The beautiful, tropical grounds are hidden inside a big compound that is completely secure. Since I was traveling without my husband, I loved feeling so safe. The beds were very comfortable and the room was modern, clean, and tastefully decorated. The kids enjoyed the water slide and pool and I enjoyed cooking in the community kitchen as a break from eating out. Delicious breakfasts are included in your stay. The day we left was the grand opening of their new restaurant which will now have dinners too.
There is no "traditional" front desk but you join the WhatsApp group that connects you with hotel staff whenever you need something. They were very responsive and helpful.

We stayed in the Dorado suite which has a private jacuzzi tub. Everything in the suite is very nice from the king bed and linens to the rain shower. The private patio and jacuzzi area provided a nice respite from sightseeing and activities all day. The included breakfast was delicious!! We also loved that it was within walking distance to Tiquicia Restaurant where we had dinner two nights in a row. Staff were friendly and professional. We would stay here again!

This is an amazing place! You would never have to leave to enjoy your vacation, but it is located close to almost any activity you might choose. The room was spacious and clean. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. The INCLUDED breakfast was enough to get me to supper. A cabana shared kitchen allowed us to prepare a couple of our own dinners. The highlight was the Howler Monkeys who hung out in the trees off our balcony a few evenings and mornings. Also, I got the best message I ever have.

We had a wonderful few days at Casa Del Rio. The photos don't really do it justice as it's set in huge grounds with wonderful flora and fauna. The rooms are spacious, clean with such comfy beds.

Food is fantastic, we loved the breakfast so much we stayed for dinner!

La Fortuna itself can feel a bit touristy but at Casa Del Rio you feel well away from that.
