ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCBD) – Hollywood comes to South Carolina State University on Tuesday.

An alumna of the university, TV-writer-producer Sa’Rah Jones has a long list of accomplishments including movies and TV shows like “The Neighborhood,” “Single Black Female,” and “Single Black Female 2”.

Jones will be on campus Tuesday for a special screening of the Lifetime movie “Single Black Female 2” followed by a fireside chat with the screenwriter.

News 2’s Octavia Mitchell will be a moderator for the university’s fireside chat with her fellow alumna beginning at 5:30 p.m. in SC State’s Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium.

Jones graduated from SC State with a degree in professional English with a minor in broadcasting in 1995. After graduation, Jones moved to Los Angeles to realize her dream as a television comedy writer.

She has worked in production for shows at Warner Bros., MGM, and Paramount.

According to SC State, Jones served as the writer and executive story editor for CBS’s “The Neighborhood” and wrote three feature movies for the Lifetime network.

“Keeping alive her love for movies, in 2022, Sa’Rah co-wrote the hit Lifetime Original Movie, “Single Black Female.” “Single Black Female,” which starred Raven Goodwin and Amber Riley, was one of Lifetime’s highest-viewed shows bringing in a total of 5.1 million viewers in one night,” said SC State.

Jones went on to write three additional Lifetime movies including “Girl in the Closet” (2023), “Single Black Female 2: Simone’s Revenge” (2024) and an additional Lifetime movie slated for (2025).
