WEARE – Sophomore Ashleigh von der Linden struck out 20 of the 21 batters she faced, and fired a no-hitter as the St. Thomas Aquinas High School softball team beat John Stark, 3-0, on Monday in this Division III contest.

“(von der Linden) just makes it look effortless when she is out on the mound,” St. Thomas Aquinas head coach McKenzie McGrath said. “The first rule about a no-hitter is you never want to talk about them, right. You never want to talk about them when they’re going on because you don’t want to jinx it.”

A lineout to second base was the only non-strikeout von der Linden had in the game.

“She was in a zone, and I don’t know she even realized what she did until the game was over,” McGrath said.

von der Linden, who walked one batter, helped herself with an RBI single. Sophomores Caroline Mollica and Sophie Graziano each scored a run, while junior Sophie Nadeau also scored.
