As a joke, comedian DeRay Davis dressed as a clown with a rainbow wig and large bow tie for a recent party he hosted at his California house.
The costume was fitting since Davis is juggling a stand-up career, film and TV roles and two girlfriends. He is one of five comedians showing their off-stage lives in the new Oxygen series “Living with Funny.” The show, set to premiere 8 p.m. Tuesday, spotlights Davis’ “three-lationship.”
“It’s like a dream, I cannot lie,” Davis told the Tribune in a phone interview last week. “Two beautiful girls, getting along …”
Davis, who grew up in Robbins and Dolton, moved to Los Angeles in 2002 after appearing in the first “Barbershop” film. He said he still has a home in the south suburbs.
He’s acted in more than 40 projects, including the Chicago-filmed “Empire.” He said he signed on to the Oxygen show because he wanted “to show the other side of what a comedian goes through when the curtains were closed.”
Davis’ story focuses on his three-year-plus relationship with his two girlfriends: Coco Crawford, 23, and Caro Peguero, 25.
“We’re able to show that it’s not exactly what people think. It ain’t no huge sex party going on. It’s a real, mature relationship,” said Davis, who declined to give his age because it’s a storyline on the show.
Davis said he spends a lot of time multi-tasking. He’s a father to a teenage girl. He also hosts the MTV2 show “Joking Off” and has a role in the upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic, “All Eyez on Me.”
“It’s not Six Flags Great America at home … but it is a fun ride to see this situation,” Davis said.
