We are a community of Carmelite Nuns living a contemplative life for Love of the Lord and for the benefit of souls.

Welcome! This out-of-the-way hill in the Port Tobacco Valley is our home.  The Lord told the Prophet Elijah to hide in the wadi and drink from the stream.  Like Elijah, we have our own little stream that playfully wraps around this hill.  Like him, we are hidden here because we thirst for God and He has invited us to drink of His life-giving mercy and His refreshing joy.

A Day in the Life
"Lord, it is good for us to be here." - Matthew 17:4

We are the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of the Blessed Virgin Mary and we have a special mission in the Mystical Body of Christ.

  • A cloistered religious community
  • Site of the first Catholic monastery in the first 13 States
  • Site of the first chapel in the United States dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
  • National Historic Site
  • Catholic shrine and pilgrimage site
  • Civil shrine of Freedom of Religion

Again, welcome!  Let us show you around our monastery.
