Community Leadership for Lee Township gives thanks

To the editor:

"Community Leadership for Lee Township" team wants to express their deepest gratitude for your support and involvement. Our petition signature collection and verification by the township has been completed.

Required number of signatures for our petition, which would put the Curbside Contract on the ballot to a vote by the residents, is 5% of Lee Township Registered Voters.

Over a total of four days, less than 19 hours of active total collecting, our team gathered 572 signatures (565 have been verified as true registered voters of Lee Township), accounting for nearly 17% of the registered Lee voters in record time.

We couldn't have done this without each of you. We've learned from all of you regardless of your personal preferences. It has been wonderful meeting so many of you in person and hearing your thoughts and concerns.

Our team has done its best to educate residents on the complexity of the budget issues, funds mismanagement, Waste Station management issues, and the Lee Township Board's unfortunate actions. We hope residents have an opportunity to vote upon this, as called for in the petition. We've used the democratic process for that, but now the ball is in the court of the Township Board. They can choose to fight it together with Republic Services.

We hope they do not. More than that, we hope they will stop sabotaging reasonable progress and improvements needed for the management of our Waste Transfer station, until a vote happens. Knowing the depth of dysfunction and misconduct displayed by certain board members, it is difficult to remain hopeful that reasonable progress (in Waste Station management and budget issues) will be possible until the vote happens. That is the most heartbreaking part of this.

The supervisor has not been communicating well to the residents since taking office, and it's clear that's not her priority.

Our team will continue to work as best as possible to assist in future matters. We will post updates, as able, so please stay tuned.

We would like to thank Michelle Trudell and her fantastic team for helping our efforts. Your help is much appreciated.
