Good work/life balance

Indeed Featured review

As a teacher you are responsible for managing pretty much everything. The training for what is entailed is not very good and your thrown into it BUT everyone is very supportive and if you have a brain you just figure things out as you go along. I feel supported and love the kids. Hardest part of the job is managing different personalities (TAs) and sometimes dealing with individuals with poor work ethic. Other than that, create a system that helps you stay on top of things and have fun with the kids. They are the best part of the job.

Pros

Decent pay, generous time off, understanding supervisors

Cons

healthcare

Sneaky and cutthroat atmosphere

Sneaky and deceptive environment. Especially in the main office with the administration. Manipulative environment with rampant favoritism. HR doesn’t engage or even return phone calls. Extremely laxed, I don’t care aura. Decision making is a month long let me ask someone else process. Avoid if you care about your self esteem because this place will definitely test it.

Pros

Absolutely none

Cons

Horrible place to work

Kids are great to work with.

I worked as a teaching assistant for special needs kids at a school site. The kids and families we worked with were great. I worked there many years until management surprisingly closed out integrated class room and made it difficult when I went for another position in the company.

Pros

The kids we cared for.

Cons

Management and HR and sometimes job was exhausting if the children had challenging behaviors.

Great learning experience, terrible pay

I'm a TA in an integrated classroom and learned that a floater who has way less responsibilities than I do makes $5 more than I do and was then told by HR that they aren't supposed to disclose this information. IMO, it should be the other way around, especially when they can't/won't send in coverage for a one to one and throw you under the bus to be a child's one to one without additional compensation or training. A lot of the other people I work with a great and I've learned a lot but I just keep hearing about other shady things that keep going on here.

Pros

Great learning experiences

Cons

No room for growth, negative environment, poor compensation

Fun and special preschool where you work with amazing children

It was a great place to work! I worked with amazing teachers who were kind, compassionate, and overall great with the kids. I would say other than the pay, it’s a great place to work!

Good place to work

This was a great place to work. Shifting caseloads made it challenging at times although there is a lot of flexibility. Opportunities to complete paperwork in office or at home. I had great coworkers and loved the children.

Capital District Beginnings is an awful place to work!

This company could care less about its employees or the children they are supposed to be helping. Management is unresponsive and disorganized! The classrooms dont have the necessary support. Problems are not addressed. No oversight at all. This company does a great disservice to the children who need services the most!

Pros

None

Cons

Poor quality, poor management, poor pay

There always was a definite split between the administration and the therapists and teachers.

The hardest and most frustrating part of the company was dealing with administration and completing time sheets. Due to lack of communication, nobody could ever give a straight answer because they would need to check with somebody else.

Pros

Good therapists and teachers

Cons

poor communication, change comp plan so therapists earn less $$

No support when you think you have it!

The people you think you can trust - don’t! If you’re an 1:1, aide, or TA just expect to “do what your teacher tells you to do! Don’t come up with Any new ideas because they will be shot down! You just work for them! (Not all teachers but most). Working with the kids is the best! They are great! But expect no contact with the parents (at least that’s what happened to me - I was shut out) Good benefits. Very overworked!

Pros

Good benefits

Cons

Overworked - some teachers not the best

Wasn’t for me

The children are great . The pay sucks which you don’t get paid for breaks. They are Terribly understaffed. Management isn’t organized. The teachers can be very chatty . Depending on what site you work at. It can be cut throat . You can do your job the best way and if the teacher you work with doesn’t like you will get you fired .

Pros

Working with kids and breaks off

Cons

The pay sucks

Perfect for entering the work field our retirement

This is a great place to work if you are not sure if you want to work with children. Also, if you have been teaching for years and are not quite ready to retire. Perfect for parents with young children, and those with older more developed children. Administration is very good with communication, and executives are very responsive to your needs. Not good if you are trying to work full time and pay off loans. But it is a great jumping off place for a career in early childhood education!

Pros

Schedule

The Staff was amazing

I liked where I worked and the people but the Salary was just to low. I earned a lot from the Teachers I worked with. It was an integrated classroom. So I got to work with typical kids as well as kids with disabilities.

Pros

The kids

Cons

Managment

Was good while it lasted

I loved working for this company...My coworkers made the job even better. The focused was on collaboration and working together. The schedule allowed for time to meet with other staff and work on multiple projects.

What my day would look like and what I enjoy most

Typical work day get classroom set up for day, hep children come in and get settled for the day, help teacher w/ circle time, help children get snack ready, help children with bathroom, set up for project, work with the children who may need some extra support, get ready for recess, help children with bathroom, set up for lunch, get book bags and folders ready to go home, help children get ready to go home. I love working with the children and enjoy watching them grow both physically and mentally. To see them hit goals that are set for them is amazing. I enjoy working with the parents to help come up with the best plan for their child.I love my team that I worked with we all worked well together. The hardest part of the job was letting them go at the end of the year.

Not great to be at

I have been with this company for over two years with the worst two years of my life. It's not even the kids it's the adults that are the worse, and management that is completely horrible. Befor you can hear back from somebody a week has gone by. The communication between staff and hr is horrible. Trainings are told to you one day in advanced. I stood so many extra hours and time spent starting early with no pay. If they staff doesn't like you, you will feel it all around the board. They don't work with their staff and horrible on taking time off. I have worked so hard in a couple different positions and never a pay increase or raise. You barely make enough a week for gas.

Pros

Love teaching and learning from the kids

Cons

Management, human resources, coworkers

Too much red tape. Unreceptive to change.

I really thought I would love it here. My interview lead me to believe they really cared about people and employees. Truth is they care about their bottom line a costs. As another reviewer mentioned they have had financial issues and that caused them to need to be more efficient which translates to low pay for TAs and one to one aids. My compensation was pretty good until compared to what was expected and the conditions I had to work in. It was next to impossible to get time off and the benefits are super expensive. Upper management (the directors) are super cautious and not open to change without checking, rechecking, getting a second third and fourth opinion and then taking a month or two to think about it. They have other managers and employees that are VERY stuck in their ways. Overall not very progressive or forward thinking. And also inconsistent with how they handle various employee issues. Overall I found the company difficult to work for. The conditions and environment might be more pleasant for someone not working at the main office.

Pros

Higher compensation

Cons

Management
