Description / Position Overview

Concrete Finisher II

In this position, you will perform cement mason work, including laying, floating, and finishing concrete for the construction, installation, and repair of new and/or existing sidewalks, curbs and gutters, ramps, and other construction projects.

Essential Job Functions- the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
  • Assemble and set formwork that holds concrete to required pitch and depth; align forms appropriately
  • Place reinforcement steel materials; ensure concrete reinforcement meets specifications; place concrete and guides; and instruct laborers in the casting and spreading of concrete
  • Finish freshly poured concrete
  • Operate a variety of heavy/light or specialized equipment; load and prepare equipment; load materials; calibrate machinery
  • Fabricate materials for special applications, such as stormwater structures, vertical wall construction, custom concrete, etc.
  • Maintain records and required logs for all equipment; make minor repairs; perform minor and preventive maintenance on equipment, and identify equipment hazards and report to appropriate personnel
  • Perform snow removal operations
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
  • Knowledge of methods, processes, and techniques used in concrete construction
  • Knowledge of safety standards, traffic laws, and occupational hazards
  • Knowledge of specialized tools, e.g,, screed, bull float, and trowel
  • Ability to read and interpret sketches and drawings
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain assigned equipment and vehicles

Successful candidate will have

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Three years of full-time experience in concrete finishing work
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver’s license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
  • Possess, or obtain within six months of hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado Commercial, Driver's License Class B, not subject to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges  (NOTE: CURRENT CDLs MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) DRUG AND ALCOHOL CLEARINGHOUSE AT 
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Additional Information

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back. 

This position requires that you are available for emergency callout.

This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently.
