On behalf of the Yakima County Auditor’s Office, we would like to congratulate you on your upcoming marriage!
Here are a few important things you will need to know before you get started:
At the time the marriage license is issued, there is a 3-day waiting period BEFORE you can get married (Example: If we issue the license on Wednesday, you can get married the following Saturday)
You have up to 60 days to get married after the 3-day waiting period is over
The marriage license is only valid in Washington State (it will not be valid if the ceremony takes place in any other state)
Both parties must be present in our office to complete the application process (if either or both parties cannot be present, please see option 2 below).
Valid government-issued photo ID is required when you come in to apply
Application Fee
The Marriage License starts at $72
Additional fee for using credit card or debit card
A certified copy of your marriage certificate may be automatically mailed for an additional $4.
Payment options:
In office: cash, personal check, signed money order, cashier's check or debit/credit card (convenience fee will apply for credit or debit card use)
By mail: personal check, signed money order, or cashier's check
both parties will still need to appear together in the Auditor's Office Recording Division
to apply online you must: • both applicants must have a current photo ID as proof of age and identity • all fields need to be completed • unknown can be added to a field ONLY if such required information is not listed in your birth certificate
important: applying online only enters the data into our system, you have NOT actually applied until you both come into our office in person to complete the process.
this option is only to be used when one or both of the applicants are unable to come into our office and the application is being signed and notarized
to apply you must: • print the application and fill out all the fields • both applicants must have a current photo ID as proof of age and identity
important: either mail or have someone bring the original notarized application into our office with the correct fees and additional information to complete the application process.
