Biography

Peter Shand Kydd was born 23 Apr 1925 in St Pancras, London, England to Norman Shand Kydd and Frances Madaline Foy.^[1]

He was the heir to his father's wallpaper fortune.

Peter Shand Kydd married Janet Munro Kerr in 1952.^[2]

Peter and Janet had three children: novelist Adam Shand-Kydd (1954-2004), Angela Shand Kydd (1956), and renowned photographer John "Johnnie" Shand Kydd (1959).

In 1962 he sold his family business moved to Australia, where he was a sheep farmer.

He later sold his farm and returned to England, and while still married began an affair with Frances Ruth Spencer, who was married to John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer. They both divorced, and were married on 2 May 1969.^[3]

He thus became stepfather to her four children, including Diana, Princess of Wales.

Shand Kydd and his wife settled on a 1000 acre farm on the remote Scottish island of Seil. They separated in June 1988.

In 1993 he married Marie-Pierre (Bécret) Palmer, and that relationship lasted until Apr 1995. Afterwards he chose to live close to his first wife Janet.

Peter Shand Kydd died on 23 March 2006, at the age of eighty, and was buried on 6 April 2006 in Aldeburgh, Suffolk.^[4]
