I have yet to be disappointed. Every time I remember it's been a long time since my last visit and I think I'll try a different menu item but that easier said than done every selection offers a great quality and boldly flavorful choice. Once...again I gave in to my memory of how much I enjoyed the baked "Strata alla Cucina" that is Fresh spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and onions, sautéed and layered with Swiss and Parmesan cheeses, French bread and our homemade egg custard, then oven roasted to a golden brown as described on the menu. But I swear next time I'm going to try one of the sandwiches or soups so I have room for a slice of one of the three layer cakes that are on display. I could write another paragraph describing the great service you will receive and the cozy surroundings that make your dining experience a place you will look forward to return to. But remember come early for lunch if hunting for parking spot isn't something you find pleasure doing.More

Just to let you know The Cafe is now open for dine in service but only at 33% capacity. Actually, it was not crowded this Sunday morning(first Sunday open for dine in service) perhaps due to people still being cautious about dining out. To begin...with there are fewer(and newer) tables spread further apart to comply with social distancing requirements. Also outside dining is an option plus the are more tables outside across from the parking lot. We ate inside on tables that were bare. No salt and pepper shakers, flowers, etc. on any table. Everything is brought to you now. All staff are wearing masks. The good is still the excellent, however, prices have increased. That was to be expected considering the circumstances. Service was friendly and prompt. Let’s say it’s going to be an adjustment to the new normal for now. That being said let’s welcome back dine in service and hope for The Cafe’s continued success.More

Traveling through Louisville on a cross-country trip we made a point to stop in Louisville for brunch. Unfortunately, many of the top brunch places were not serving dine-in due to COVID so we were fortunate to end up at The Cafe. It was rated as...a top brunch spot and it did not disappoint. Food was excellent and the service was top notch.More

We have been coming here for years, however, this was not a banner day. To be fair our server was quite pleasant and attempted to rectify the situation. Still the missteps in the kitchen led to a less than adequate experience this visit. Number one...pet peeve-when given silverware why is there no spoon. Stirring coffee is not easy without a spoon. This has happened more than once. When the food was brought out by kitchen(not our server) there was no salt, pepper, ketchup, jelly and butter. It gets worse. My wife’s scrambled eggs had shells in them( more than one bite) and she was missing the fried potatoes. The manager did come out to apologize and offer to have them remade. This was done but closer to when I was almost finished with my meal. To make matters worse the replacement scrambled eggs where brown on the bottom. Overcooked? You bet. My eggs were supposed to be over medium but they were rather rubbery and the the toast was hard. It’s been somewhat rocky since Covid and less than stellar after Sal sold this business to another company last year. I’m not giving up on them but things have to start improving.More

The experience as a whole was just lacking. After a long wait to get seated the food itself took a rather long time to be prepared. When it finally arrived the order was incorrect. There seemed to be much confusion. After another 10 min we...finally had our meals but they were somehow both lukewarm and overdone. The flavors were fine, it was just poorly executed. Our server was attentive enough but not enough to make up for the poor quality of the meal.More

The Cafe needs to get their act together. This has been our favorite place for breakfast and lunch for years. We have encouraged many people to patronize this establishment which used to offer great service and fantastic food. However, with the new owners they don’t...seem to care about providing good customer service or the same quality of consistently great food. We have a large group that comes every week to the café, we will be looking for a new spot. Recently my husband had to leave before getting his lunch due to not only time to get waited on but to not even receive his food (40 minutes plus). Don’t go unless you have unlimited time and patience.More

I had never been to the old location or even heard of it before so had no preconceived notions. We went for weekday lunch and got there at 11:30. As a work group, we were a party of 14. I'm not sure if someone called...ahead but we were seated within 5 minutes. If you have to wait, you can browse the Louisville Stoneware Co which is connected and opens to the restaurant. It more than passed the time of the short wait. The place is huge and we arrived before the lunch rush got started. The menu had a huge selection and I was tempted by several things but ultimately ordered the french toast from the breakfast menu. For such a large group, I felt we didn't wait too long for our food. My french toast was pretty good. Different than I'd ever had before - made from French baguettes with pecans and fried apples. It was a huge and filling portion. Not your typical french toast. It was good but not sure I'd order it again. Everyones' dishes looked great and everyone was more than happy with their sandwiches/entrees. They do have dinner hours on the weekend but I'd love to come back for lunch again and try a sandwich.More

I’ve been going to the cafe for over 20 years. The food and service have always been excellent. The service still is, however, the new owners may have made some changes. I visited here on 8/28/20 and ordered my fav...the chicken salad and also picked...up some pimento cheese. Sad to say that it’s not the same 😕 the taste was bland, definitely not the same ingredients. Maybe brands were switched, who knows. I may give it a second chance 🤷🏻‍♀️ hate to see a good place lose its spot as my favorite lunch place ever.More

The Cafe is now owned by the folks who own Buckheads and are now open on Sundays. Sal is still the manager and the food is as good as always. Of course now you can order alcoholic beverages to boot. As long as they continue...with the same quality and service then business will continue to prosper. Stay tuned as at some point this year they will move to the newly renovated building across the street. Word is that the food will be served on Louisville Stoneware dishes. That should be a nice touch.More

This diamond in the rough is kind of hidden but worth the trip to find it. The hot brown was delicious amazing breakfast and followed by the salted caramel chocolate cake which was perfect frosting not to sweet cake not heavy but rather light and...airy absolutely delicious. You have to try them both. Great service warm atmosphere truly a great experienceMore

The 3 of us stopped in for brunch about 1:30 on a Sunday .The place was rather full but, we got in out rather quickly. I opted for a Ham n cheese omelette with potatoes and italian bread for the toast. My brunch companions order...baked oatmeal which looked very tasty . The menu had a decent selection ,server was attentive and the decor was cute. The mango tea was lacking flavor . Next time I am gonna order a piece of their super sized cake!More

The Cafe is well worth finding and seeing are area that will soon be revitalized! The food was absolutely delicious. If I lived closer I would go every day until I tried every item on the very extensive menu and then would probably have to...start over, still not being able to choose a favorite. Yes, it was that good!More

I have been to The Cafe s ever since Sal Rubino opened the place, probably once a week until now. The breakfast today was the “straw”. Since the takeover, which I was not opposed to, there has been dramatic change. Why do you want to...change a good thing? The place was a favorite and crowds were waiting for entrance. The first Change was the breakfast potatoes from a delicious real potato cooked on the grill or baked with onions and grease and herbs to a diced deep fried potato that you can get everywhere and at fast food joints. The Change today was from a real croissant to a bun shaped like a croissant, the same as sold at Wendy’s. You are destroying a good thing. You have raised the prices and decreased the quality and quantity of your food. Raise the prices if you need to but don’t change a thing from when Sal ran the place. Also the parking has diminished which rules out a lot of older people coming there. Our group of 10 came one night for dinner and the food was not good The mashed potatoes that came with the meal were dry and tasted like they weee prepared way in advance Is one example. My group of 10 does not want to return there at night.More

We still like The Cafe but prices have gone up considerably. One pick 3 lunch special, one breakfast, one coffee and we split a piece of cake to take home-$47 with tip. Of course prices have gone up since Covid everywhere but it’s getting harder...to justify going out to eat. I have no problems with the food or service as both were good. Well, the cake of the day(S’mores) at $8 a slice was not as good as some we have had there. I do miss the ambiance of the old place across the street and I also miss the old staff that may not have known you by name but recognized your face and greeted you warmly. Sal and his wife certainly earned their retirement but we still miss them also.More

We don’t come here as often as we used to since Sal sold the business. However, we really did have a good lunch as we both went with the pick 3 combo of 1/2 roasted veggie sandwich, tomato dill soup and fresh fruit. It’s actually...a good value and very filling. We also had very good service this visit. The one downside was the the piece of cake we took home was a bit disappointing and somewhat boing. Other than that it was fine.More
