Olympic gold medalist and American swimmer Michel Andrew has a major reason to be proud. He is nominated for the 2021 Golden Goggle Award for “Relay Performance of the Year” as part of Team USA.

Andrew is nominated alongside his Team USA teammates Ryan Murphy, Caeleb Dressel, and Zach Apple for their gold medal-winning, and world record-breaking men’s 4 x 100 medley relay race at the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games. They obliterated the world record with a time of 3:26.78.

Michael Andrew swam the fastest American breaststroke leg in the Olympic history of the men’s 4 x 100 medley relay, with a time of 58.49 seconds, and Caeleb Dressel swam the fastest butterfly leg in history (49.03 seconds). Most impressive was the fact that they accomplished this unique feat swimming from Lane 1.

With the gold medal and the world record in their favor, Dressel, Murphy, Andrew, and Apple are the odds-on favorite to take home this Golden Goggle Award.

Team USA has kept their gold streak in this event winning their 14th straight Olympic medal in this relay race.

In 2018, Andrew was honored as the “Breakout Performer of the Year” at the Golden Goggle Awards.

That entire Olympic race may be seen below.

The 18th annual Golden Goggle Awards, presented by USA Swimming, will take place on Tuesday, December 7, at the Faena Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.
