Ok so I just need to take back all the times I previously said that I was over found footage because I still love it just as much as I used to.
This was honestly right up there with The Blair Witch Project! Maybe not quite as good, but I’m biased because for me that will always be the best. But damn, this really had me completely invested. I loved the way it presented an urban legend that, just like the Blair Witch, you’d swear was real if you didn’t know better…which I actually didn’t until I was reading about the movie afterwards.

A very well done found footage/mockumentary horror film. Reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project in a lot of ways, but it also becomes its own thing. I love any creepy mythology so I was into the story immediately. This was also filmed in my hometown of Baltimore, MD, so that also peaked my interest. Worth your time, and it has one of the best jumpscares I’ve seen in recent years.
Simultaneously a gutbusting found footage send-up, an utterly ruthless interrogation of the genre, and, most impressively, a legitimately spooky and clever (clever even without the meta trickery!) entry into the canon. For fans of Marble Hornets and Real Life (1979, dir. Albert Brooks).

Was gonna leave it at just that, but this surprised & impressed me to the point that I’d feel remiss for not saying more. On the surface, Butterfly Kisses appears to be little more than an urban legend found footage horror movie, but it uses that skin as a jumping off point to delve into the ethics of filmmaking, documentary, & journalism, all through the vehicle of a dramatic character study with real stakes & consequences. A very well made horror mockumentary but not as great as Lake Mungo but as a film on its own it's pretty darn good. Definitely this film is not for everyone because primarily it's not about the horror but about the obsession this failed filmaker has with his findings and how he tries to gain some perspective with his peers. His journey is what kept me hooked and at times I felt so fricking bad for this guy because I've been in a somewhat similar situation ages ago and I felt what he was feeling.
The horror elements are also done efficiently but there are some jumpscares with loud noises but it's never a false scare. Do check it out its a small and a good one!

There’s some fun to be had with this story and the cast is solid. I mean some moments can crack through and feel heavily forced. Also feels kinda clunky at points but not too bad for found-footy. 6/10🎥
i was pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed this. i don't understand how this isn't well known in the horror community, especially for found footage lovers. it's definitely one of the best found footage movies i've seen recently.
A decent found footage mockumentary, played up as real by having the actual film's director/writer (Erik Kristopher Myers) play himself, directing a film about a man who finds footage by two college students who were attempting to capture proof of a local folkloric monster called Peeping Tom. There are plenty of questionable moments and plot holes, many of which are indeed addressed by characters in the film, but most still lack satisfying answers. The acting is variable, with the in-footage college kids being pretty so-so (particularly the female lead in the opening and closing sequences).
