About
Come enjoy our breathtaking 22 ha (55 acres) of gardens year around. In Spring, countless tulips, daffodils and hyacinths will give you a buffet of fragrances and colours. You’ll be saying “wow” when you experience our Summer: The Rose Garden, evening entertainment, subtle night illuminations, the Saturday firework show, and boat tours to name a few of the delights. Perennial borders start their stunning show in late summer, and the Japanese maples turn to russet, gold, and red in the fall. Be captivated by the Magic of Christmas with its decorations, expansive lighting and outdoor ice skating rink. Top off the day with a ride on the carousel and a great meal. Come see why we’ve been designated a National Historic Site.

Another great visit, probably our last
We are two seniors that have visited these gardens for decades. Last week we visited for maybe the last time. As always we score this site 5 stars. What is there not to like? The grounds are stunningly beautiful. The colors, shapes and forms please the eye and the heart. You can find privacy if you wish or walk in a crowd and share your experience. No matter the season there is always something blooming. In two hours I never saw a weed. Nothing is out of place. Whether it the the sunken garden or the Japanese Garden you are amazed at the design and the execution of the design. There is a nice restaurant and a great gift shop two. We accidentally were booked into "high tea." This is mostly an event enjoyed by ladies. There were a few gentlemen participating but their comfort level seemed to be a bit less than that of their lady companions. I enjoyed my time and my wife enjoyed watching her 6-6 man eat tiny portions of sandwiches and sweets and try to hold a fragile tea cup with my monster fingers! Oh well, it was her birthday, not mine. If you have not been Buchart Gardens are a "must do" when in Victoria. If you have been before, come back. The beauty here never diminishes with time. It only strengthens.

    Still incredible.
Haven’t been here since the 70s then 80s. Though things are not all in bloom in March the mere ambiance and aromas of the ones that are will give you such a lifted feeling. The serenity of the whole place to perfectly groomed gardens ..just awesome. And hats off to the parking arrangements..very well thought out and directed.

    Beautiful Anytime of Year
We spent about 4 hours touring the garden areas. The gardens were so beautiful and different from each other. I was initially a bit concerned about visiting in late March, but there were still a lot of flowers in bloom and some that wouldn’t if you arrived in late April or early May like the daffodils and crocuses. We had High Tea in the Dining Room seated at a garden window table…absolutely stunning. The selections were delicious along with our teas. We took the transit and it was so easy and relaxing just to sit back and enjoy the scenery along the way. Highly recommend going to the gardens!

    Nice garden
It was a nice garden for our visit. We would love to visit it again. After we got off the BC Ferry, we hopped on the #81 bus to the Butchart Garden. We purchased the bus day passes on the bus, the bus driver was very nice and friendly. The food items were a bit pricey in there, $7+ for 2 coffee. The salad portion was pretty small for $13+. We only bought 2 coffees. You can easily catch the #75 from the Butchart Garden to Victoria downtown.

    Worth the price
Wonderful . The gardens are incredibly well kept and it was great to stroll around even if the weather did not help much (but at least it didn't rain). The price is all worth. The food at one of the restaurant was nice. The shops on the contrary have overpriced items (we found the same stuff in vancouver for 40% less)

    Lots of Tulips
Lovely place for a stroll some beautiful trees and shrubs. Remember the flowers change with the seasons, so if you're hoping to see roses in May you won't. If I lived in the area I would for sure buy a season pass

A joy to experience the ever changing garden
We were blessed to enjoy a later May day with perfect weather & not excessive crowds. Butchart gardens represent the Butchart family heritage across multiple generations - still owned by a great granddaughter of the original owners. The teams of skillful gardeners & workers there create wonderful displays that include some rare specimens - we saw the rare blue poppies in full bloom. It is worth repeated trips during various seasons to get the fuller experience of the seasonality of the setting. Quality food available for purchase, immaculately kept facility & tasteful gift chops add to the experience. Truly one of the top gardens in the world that the public can visit.

    Beautiful Gardens
The gardens are a must see when you visit Victoria. I took a shuttle with CVS sightseeing that I booked online, it was 50.00 and when I got there I saw that BC transit bus goes there, I would take the bus. I walked around about 90% of the gardens and it took roughly 1.5 hours. Lots of the flowers were just being planted but still beautiful. Go first thing in the morning no crowds.

    Dog friendly pretty pricey
Great half day activity! LOVED that it was dog friendly! Easy walking around. Only 4/5 stars because it really isn’t that big and the day pass price is steep for a group. If you’re camping in the area with a dog it’s a perfect add on. Great to picnic at. Beautiful gardens!

    Very well done.
Although I am no garden fan and went because my wife is, this was a very impressive place to see and experience. The gardens are immaculate, extremely well maintained and expansive. The entire place is easily accessible and even though it was very busy when we were there, it did not impact on the quality of the visit. Highly recommended, even if gardens are not really your thing……..

Beautiful gardens!! The gardens are so well planned and maintained. It was like a piece of heaven. The information says the average visit is 1 1/2 hrs. We took 4 hours and loved every minute.

The garden is incredible! There are so many different beautiful flowers. It’s a walk through self guided tour so you can take your time and stroll through. There are paths for wheelchairs too. The sunken garden and the water fountain were among our favorites. Go early and take your time to see it all you will not regret it!

One word describes these gardens WOW! The first view of the sunken garden was just incredible. The fountain was amazing.
There are lots of different styles of gardens all easily accessed with the help of the map. They also provide a free plant ID booklet to help you know what the plants are.
I have never visited such a well tended garden before.
Plenty places to just stop & take it all in.
Lovely gift shop & food outlets.
Highly recommend a visit. Allow 2-3 hours to fully enjoy the garden.

The gardens are stunningly beautiful and carefully tended. It is hard to imagine that they have been around for over 100 years. This is a "must see"if in Victoria. Tip: take a taxi because it is less expensive than the shuttle bus.

I've seen some gardens in my 60 years all over't world.

But this one goes down as the best I've ever seen. Kew, Versailles, Kirstenbosch, Singapore Botanical... pah! The Butchart Gardens are quite simply worth every penny, dime, cent! Tina Turner - STB!

Brilliantly designed, lovingly cared for... an assault on the senses in a very positive way.

And a big hats off to the staff, who busily work away but are keen to chat and share their obvious passion, knowledge and enthusiasm.

I could waffle on for ages about colours and varieties and fountains.... but just take my advice - GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the tour stops on Road Scholar trip. Beautiful gardens, even in late September! The dahlias were just gorgeous! The rose garden was delightful - both visually and aromatically. I was challenged by the map provided. Had trouble following the trails. The garden really needed more signage. Wonderful maintenance of the grounds. Great gift shop!

This is not our first time here (my 2nd, wife's 4th) and being late summer the colours were not as vibrant as, say, July. But the place is always a pleasure to walk and relax, taking in whatever the gardens offer. The variety of presentations is always what keeps it interesting. It's a bit pricey but understandable given what goes into it on an ongoing basis. We will likely return in a few yrs time as we enjoy visiting the island and it's different environment compared to our home ground.

A wonderful world class series of gardens, the highlight of a trip to Vancouver island. Spectacular floral displays and landscape vistas demand photo after photo. The dancing fountain, statues and other fountains, rose gardens with so many different varieties and the Japanese gardens are among the many highlights. Weather was perfect.

Went to Butchart Gardens as part of an overnight tour package to Victoria from Vancouver. Probably wouldn’t have got there otherwise but so glad that it was included. The gardens are absolutely stunning with my favourite being the Japanese area but all parts were incredible. Would love to have my own garden like this!
