1701 to 1800
- 1748
Bury's first school was founded by town residents including the Rev. John Stanley.
- 1773
Brooksbottom Mill was established as a calico printing works. This was the beginning of the cotton industry in Bury.
- 1775
Bury workhouse, also known as the Redvales workhouse, was built on the Manchester Road.
- 1776-80
The church of St Mary the Virgin, located in today's Market Place, was rebuilt for the second time.
- 1787
The theatre in Bury collapsed onto the audience during a performance on July 4th. Sixteen people were killed and fifty others were injured.
- 1791
Construction work began on the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal.
- 1793
The population of the township of Bury (within Bury Parish) was 2,900.
