Steve McQueen is cool as ice in this thrilling police procedural that also happens to contain arguably the greatest movie car chase ever.

John H Great story and action with the King of Cool. Great car chase in SF. A classic and Steve McQueen at his best. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/09/24 Full Review Franky L Steve McQueen perfection. In his coolest role, Steve is perfect as the 70s hard boiled detective. The best chase scene ever filmed. Best of its 70s cop-flick genre. Must watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/24 Full Review Tony S First came Bullitt, then Dirty Harry, both set in San Francisco. Both characters were reputedly inspired by the same SF homicide detective, Dave Toschi. Toschi was portrayed by Mark Ruffolo in the 2007 film, Zodiac. Clint is best, imo. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/18/23 Full Review Jelisije J Probably the most overrated Steve McQueen film that I have seen, but still was a good time for me as well. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/02/23 Full Review Noah H Robert Vaughn teaches a class in acting as the duplicitous Senator, Walter Chalmers. The audience is left wanting more from Trustman and Kleiner's treatment of Bullitt's life away from the chase, apart from his love of coffee. While little character exists for Bullitt on the page, McQueen breathes sensitivity and resolve into the lieutenant. It is easy to see how this film helped change the way action sequences were filmed. Yates puts the viewer in harms way, so hold on to your seat. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/16/23 Full Review Kev F The car chase scene is spectacular but other than that, there is nothing special about this movie. John Mahoney Hollywood Reporter It is simply one of the most exciting and intelligent action films in years, probably the best good-cop film we can expect to encounter. Oct 17, 2018 Full Review Variety Good scripting and excellent direction by Peter Yates maintain deliberately low-key but mounting suspense. Mar 1, 2007 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Reader There isn't much here, and what there is is awfully easy. Mar 1, 2007 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com ‘…while the 110 mph car chase is one of cinema’s most visceral scenes, the whole package just sings as a study of driven machismo… Rated: 5/5 Jan 23, 2024 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Over 54 years after its release, Bullitt remains one of the best thrillers in cinematic history with much thanks to its historic chase sequence. Rated: 4/5 Jan 4, 2023 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation Fifty years later and the closest anyone has ever come to this is simply stealing plot points here, an action beat there, and wishing that their leading man was a tenth as cool as Steve McQueen.
