New Works

The Playhouse's leadership is focused on creating a multi-faceted new works program at this critical stage of the theater's growth. Of the seven world premieres presented since 2012, the most recent, Candace Bushnell's Is There Still Sex in the City?, drew younger audiences to the Playhouse, subsequently moved to New York, and is now preparing for a national tour with the Playhouse as co-producer.

The Playhouse is currently developing a new musical entitled Female Troubles, with music by Curtis Moore, lyrics by Amanda Green, and book by Jenn Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan.
In Female Troubles, Elinor Benton finds herself surprisingly and undeniably knocked-up. Elinor's pregnancy presents a considerable problem since she is unmarried and living in 19th century England. Facing devastating ruin, Elinor sets off on a journey to find Madame Restell, an infamous midwife who offers cures for women with "female troubles."
