Legendary relief pitcher
Bruce Sutter was one of the premier closers in baseball during his 12-year major league career. He struggled at first in the minor leagues until he was taught the split-finger fastball which he mastered. He began his major league career with the Chicago Cubs and was a four-time All-Star and the Cy Young Award winner in 1979 with Chicago. Before the 1981 season, he was traded by the Cubs to the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a two-time all-star for the Cards and helped them win the 1982 World Series with two saves. He finished his career with the Atlanta Braves, retiring due to shoulder issues. His last save in the Major Leagues was number 300. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006 and was the first player ever to be inducted who did not start a game.
