How do I type a pound sign when my keyboard only has a $ key

Hi all

I am really not happy with MS

I have a Surface Pro 3 but the keyboard is a US one... so no pound sign and only $$$ sign

I have changed the language to UK keyboard is uk QWERTY but no pound sign...

I cannot use any of the Alt + number tricks to get a pound sign

nothing works.... PLEASE someone tell me how to fix this without the expense of buying a UK keyboard

thanks

george

Click on the menu and go to "All Apps" and go to "Windows Accessories".  Launch the Character Map and click on the "£" and then "SELECT" and then "COPY".

Now, paste it in your document.

I'm not personally sure about this, but if you set your location to UK - AND if
you used the SOFT keyboard and not the cover and press and hold on the $ sign,
is one of the options a UK pound sign? let us know?

Barb

Very useful but not quite correct... let me explain...

I am typing using my keyboard...

region and keyboard settings are uk...

I will now switch to the internal keyboard

Now this is the internal keyboard and all I have to do is switch to numeric characters

And press the navigation key on left >twice

And voilà you can use the pound sign

££££££££££££££

And the euro

€€€€€€€€€€€

Cool huh?

George,

Sorry to say this, but that's your responsibility for not specifying and purchasing a UK Keyboard.  But you can still set any keyboard as 'U.K.' using the configuration screen in Windows, just as you have always been able the in previous versions, which reconfigures the key to print the £ sign instead of $.

that is just about the most unhelpful response anybody could receive to a question seeking help.

First I don't know who you are but you do not seem to be an advanced MS support person with tons of experience

Second ... I am an advanced USER with over 40 years experience... I tend to try to be at the cutting edge of technology... that mostly means I have to buy products when they are just launched normally in the USA  AND AS IN THIS CASE NOT LAUNCHED IN THE UK... GET THE PICTURE BUSTER???

Third... you have always been able to reconfigure keyboards right??? well you would know ... all I know is that I have used the settings described by MS in selecting one language one keyboard and that does not reconfigure my keyboard.... so you must be able to describe in detail exactly how to do that... RIGHT???
