ANN ARBOR, MI – Police were at Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor for a reported shooting that occurred Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called the mall, 100 Briarwood Circle, at about 3:20 p.m. Friday, April 16, for a reported gunshot victim, according to the Ann Arbor Police Department.
The victim has been taken to University of Michigan hospital where he is listed in stable condition, police said.
Police stated the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and no other reported shooting victims have been located, police said.
Police were still at the scene as of 4 p.m. Friday and are asking residents to stay away from the area until the situation has been resolved.
At 3:56 p.m., the Ann Arbor Police Department tweeted the following:
“Officers are investigating a report of shots fired at @Briarwood mall. At this time there IS NOT an active shooter and we ask people to avoid the area of the mall while the investigation is in progress.”
Just after 4 p.m., there were several police cars from the Ann Arbor Police Department and the University of Michigan Police Department outside the Romano’s Macaroni Grill near the intersection of Eisenhower and State. Two people were in handcuffs but it was unclear what their involvement was in the shooting, if any. Police at the scene declined to comment and said more information would be forthcoming.
