SAS: Who Dares Wins’ Brendan Cole has admitted that not getting on with a Strictly Come Dancing celebrity partner makes for a ‘hideous’ show.
The professional dancer, who appeared on the BBC series since its inception until 2017, revealed a clash of personalities can cause tension behind-the-scenes and that he’s not always been so lucky in having a ‘lovely’ star to work with.
‘If you don’t get on with your partner then Strictly Come Dancing is the most hideous show,’ Brendan confessed during last night’s episode.
‘You’ve got to spend six, seven, eight, nine, 10 hours with them with this person you really don’t like and they don’t like you.’
He continued: ‘I am lucky for the most part, my partners were lovely. I had a great relationship with a lot of them, not all of them but a lot of them.’
Brendan won the first series of Strictly back in 2004 with newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky.
They paired up together again for the Christmas Special later that year, coming in second place with their Foxtrot.
Brendan was partnered with a number of famous faces during his tenure on the series, including Good Morning Britain star Charlotte Hawkins and Murder On The Dancefloor singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
Ahead of the launch of the new Celebrity: SAS Who Dares Wins, Brendan was quizzed over whether he felt he needed to prove his masculinity after his ballroom background.
‘I don’t think I’ve had to prove my masculinity as such,’ the 43-year-old explained: ‘But I want to prove that I am capable of anything that I am challenged with.
‘With this particular programme, I knew how rough and tough it was going to be out there, so I’m glad I was able to show that side of me.’
He added: ‘This particular type of programme is right up my street. When it came through I was quite chuffed to be asked.
‘I like to do anything adrenalin-fuelled that challenges you, that pushes you out of your comfort zone. I think people don’t know me as that person, they only know me as a dancer. ‘So when the offer came through, I jumped at it.’
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues on Monday at 9pm on Channel 4.
