47% Tomatometer 58 Reviews 78% Audience Score 250+ Ratings In an idyllic utopia whose peace and stability hinge upon control of monogamy, privacy, money, family and history itself, everyone belongs to everyone else. Conditioned from birth at the Hatchery, residents of New London are assigned a letter of the Greek alphabet and relegated to predetermined life roles in accordance with expectations for their bio-engineered caste. As members of society's upper echelons and those on the marginalized fringes begin to question the so-called faultless rules of their reality, perfection gets flipped on its head. Based on Aldous Huxley's prophetic 1932 novel, this genre-bending, science-fiction and fantasy drama imagines a world steeped in holographic pleasure, with hedonistic values re-branded as selflessness for the good of the collective. In a pressure cooker of norms both strait-jacketed and freewheeling, humanity is on a collision course with forbidden love and revolutionary uprising. Read More Read Less

      Critics Consensus

Brave New World is sleek and seductive, but not very daring, only skimming the surface of Aldous Huxley's dystopian epic without plumbing its philosophical depths.

Alexandra Heller-Nicholas ABC Radio (Australia) Regardless of whether you are familiar with the novel or not, this is a world that is very easy to escape into, and by doing so the series demands we ask bigger questions about the nature of escape itself. Rated: 4/5 Oct 21, 2020 Full Review Scott Bryan BBC.com I like the look of it, even if it's not the stand out show we've seen in the last few months, I will certainly keep watching it. Oct 8, 2020 Full Review Ed Cumming Independent (UK) Brown Findlay and Lloyd are likeable leads, and we root for them even though they are explicitly lacking in emotion. Rated: 3/5 Oct 2, 2020 Full Review Andy Witchger Vague Visages It remains compelling because, despite its lavish, technology-driven future, it remains firmly grounded in the emotional turmoil of a diverse group of individuals. Aug 1, 2023 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz Despite some evocative (and provocative) visuals and appropriate dramatic tension, it fails to truly excite. Aug 23, 2021 Full Review Valerie Ettenhofer Film School Rejects To the likely dismay of Huxley purists, Peacock's Brave New World is sexy, gorgeous, and exciting, a feast of visual and sensory delights that's often purposely empty in its portrayal of purposely empty people. I.R. F I loved this show, but it left me wanting more and it doesn't look like that'll be happening. The great Grant Morrison (The Invisibles/The Matrix) had a major hand in the development of this show. The show teases, and it delivers. It's not an exact copy of the classic book, but it does a nice job of adapting to the times. Highly recommend it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review jeppe s pretty obvious the director must be illiterate, or maybe he only just skimmed? this is not a good representation of one of the greatest sci-fi books of all time Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Jerry E Slick and pretty. But it completely misses the point of Huxley's book. The novel is a satire, with everything in it totally serious. The actors in the video seem to be playing at their roles rather than taking them as reality. They give off the smug attitude that they are better than the material. We never feel immersed in a dystopia. And Bernard Marx is completely miscast. In fact, the movies "Idiocracy" and the original "Total Recall" have the right tone. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/20/23 Full Review anna m just ok - it could have been stronger Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/23 Full Review Will C Shame they cancelled this show Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/30/23 Full Review Maja M I loved this show so much, devastated it was prematurely cancelled. Acting to world-building. LOVED IT. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
