The highway has used up alot of pets.
4 Stars
The highway has used up alot of pets.
More I watch the better I like it. I do find the story, left a blank in it.daughter, Ellie Creed, is not killed, and only surviving member of the two house holds in the this story.Would of been nice, to show Ellie having to live with her Mothers parents. When it finishes.Fred Gwynne and his accent makes this film, he does great job with his story telling.Creed's, they should not have been parents.Creed's move to a Highway home, so close to highway, and no barriers, poor choice. This sets the scene, it is what the movie is trying to portray here. What you bury in the Sematary does not return as original.Do the buried disturb the loved ones? Why does the father have a weirdness towards his son Gage Creed? Is it, not his son?

Okay after reading a few reviews I felt the need to put some information in here so maybe some people can understand some things they didn't in the movie. Since it's based upon the book (which I have read) it is for the most part true to the book, but there is some things I have noticed that are not cleared up and some people are confused on, yes it really doesn't have much to do with the Pet Sematary, but this whole story was written based upon King's own experience, in the introduction of my book he tells about how this story came to be. He had moved to Maine to work at the university, and they lived along side a road just as bad as in the book, his son actually did almost make it into the road where a big 18 wheeler was well on its way but luckily for him he says either his son fell before he made it to the road or he pulled him back just in time but fear makes you forget these things. So there is where gage comes into play, as for church, kings daughters cat died while they were there and he heard strange popping in the garage where he found his daughter stomping on the clear bubble packing screaming "he was my cat, he was mine, why did god take him he was mine, god could have his own, not mine" and king thought this to be the purest reaction to death. Anger. A pet cemetery really existed near their house and it was written "pet sematary" so this is where that also came in and how it became the title. King then took these events and pushed it to the worst scenarios and the "what if" factor and actually didn't publish it for 3 years after writing it because he was so disturbed by what he had wrote. As for how they were coming back, it is explained to be the wendigo who soured the ground, and if you're touched by the wendigo you begin to have a cannibalistic trait, explaining why church had a new found love of ripping animals apart, and why gage insisted on biting on necks and eating his mothers face. So i hope this cleared things up for everyone and can help you appreciate just how great of a movie and book this really is. It's insane, and commendable for king to push himself this far when it has to do with his own family, that makes you connect with it so much more.

Dr. Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff) along with his wife (Denise Crosby) and two children Gage and Ellie (Miko Hughes and Blaze Berdhal) has just moved from Chicago to a small town in Maine. He befriends a kind and good old man who lives right across the road from their house named Judd Crandall (Fred Gwynne) who gives them a tour of the area especially of the local pet cemetery that has a secret beyond the hills, for it's an old indian burial ground with magic powers to resurrects dead animals and other living beings back to life. One day the family cat gets killed but luckily Louis and Judd resurrect it but it seems harmless but acts different as a zombie and even one day the 3-year old son Gage gets killed by a truck and Louis must try to resurrect him unfortunately there is bad results.

An exciting, gruesome and macabre if not entirely faithful adaptation of Stephen King's novel, this supernatural zombie horror thriller offers good frights, nice acting and shocks abound. Fred Gwynne whom you remember as Herman Munster does a fantastic and perfect performance as the lovable old man and there is a memorable score with some genuine tension, Miko Hughes makes a memorable performance as the three year old zombie murderer with a fetish for scalpals. It's also a gripping tale of supernatural horror you'll never forget and coming in 2008 is a remake that will be more faithful to the novel.

This DVD has great picture and sound with only three extras being three featurettes and no trailer, but this is still a must have for zombie and horror fans.

This modern classic, directed by Mary Lambert (the director of Madonna's controversial Like a Prayer music video), constitutes her breakthrough effort in the medium of film and will be firmly etched in the minds of audiences as the greatest adaptation of a Stephen King novel that dwells upon family dynamics and constitutes an endearing and poignant movie infused with engrossing elements of human drama revolving around a medical doctor's (Louis Creed) attempt to bring his dear son, Cage, back to live by burying him in an abandoned Indian burial ground (located behind the pet cemetery), in allusion to the famed Monkey's Paw, and, having brought him back to live, realizing it was something darker than his beloved son that had returned - for Cage not only butchered Judd Crandall, their neighbor, but also Louis' wife; Rachel, and, given the atrocities committed by his resurrected son, finding himself compelled to put him back to sleep, only to make the same mistake again with his wife (ontogeny recapitulate phylogeny), by rationalizing that he had waited too long before burying his son in the Indian burial ground.

Well scripted by Stephen King (who makes a Hitchcock Ian cameo appearance), commendable performances by all the leading actors and actresses (with particular kudos to the ever handsome and alluring Denise Crosby, who plays the Rachel Creed, Mike Hughes, who plays Gage Creed, and Dale Midkiff, who plays Louis Creed), with an extremely effective score, well integrated sound effects, great special effects, Mary Lambert in her unforgettable breakthrough effort as a director, commendably punctuated by great editing, cinematography and art direction, Pet Sematary will go down the annals of cinema as a modern horror classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars De lo mejor del género de horror
Reviewed in Mexico on November 4, 2017

5.0 out of 5 stars The soil of a man's heart is stonier ..
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 24, 2018
"A man grows what he can, and he tends it. 'Cause what you buy, is what you own. And what you own... always comes home to you."

I am going to be 33 this year, & have been desensitized to Horror movies ever since I was 7.. to this day this film still creeps me
the HELL out!!.. it is so macabre! & melancholy!, with an incredibly eerie atmosphere, which an amazing soundtrack brings to life,
music & the right soundtrack are VERY important for a Horror movie, ( just look at Halloween 1 or Hellraiser 1) And the soundtrack for
Pet Sematary is just spot on. Pet Sematary is not to be watched if you are having a bad day or are feeling Depressed.

This Horror film has everything, Hags, Zombies, Gore, Ancient Indian Burial Grounds, Evil Pets, Ghosts, Demonic Children..
everytime I watch Pet Sematary I always hope that maybe THIS time Lewis will reach Gage.. but he never does,
I can not think of any worse Horror than of tragically losing one's child.. which happened to my aunt in the past, who lost her Son which was very similar to the death of Gage, nor can I think of anything more heartbreaking than of losing your family pet which has been a lifelong best friend.. which happened to us a few years ago when our young Cat was tragically run over, and when we also lost our 19 1/2 year old Cat which had to be euthanized last year. That's the whole point of Horror films though you see, when it is truly able to strike the very chords of your heartstrings, & which is a real shame that horror movies do not really do it as well as they used to in the past.

I haven't seen the re-make & I am not really interested, so I can't compare, but I doubt VERY much that it embodies this
kind of macabre & uniquely incredible atmosphere which is also extremely melancholic, & I am usually right.
For 1989, Pet Sematary is slightly dated.. but in many ways Pet Sematary will always remain timeless. Stephen King is a genius.

(P.S) By the way, did any of you know that it was a guy who played Zelda?.. they couldn't find a scrawny enough woman to play the invalid role so they found Andre Hubastek... They just don't make em like this anymore!!.
