German Joint Support and Enabling Service Headquarters

The German Joint Support and Enabling Service Headquarters is at the Joint Support and Enabling Service’s highest level of command. It has been located in Bonn since its activation on 1 October 2012. Headed by the Chief of the Joint Support and Enabling Service, the Headquarters co-located with the Federal Ministry of Defence in Bonn Hardthöhe supervises the diverse tasks of the Joint Support and Enabling Service, such as logistics, military police service, homeland security, and civil-military cooperation.

Mission

At the top level of command of the Joint Support and Enabling Service, the Headquarters supports the Chief of the Joint Support and Enabling Service in exercising command and control of all subordinate units, and ensures the operational readiness and task accomplishment of its more than 200 agencies in Germany and abroad. The Joint Support and Enabling Service considers itself as a global service provider for the entire Bundeswehr. Its tasks range from logistics, military music service, military police service, service dog training, and civil-military cooperation to the promotion of top-level sport. In his function as the National Territorial Commander, the Chief of the Joint Support and Enabling Service exercises command and control of Bundeswehr forces during operations in Germany from the Joint Support and Enabling Service Headquarters. The Bundeswehr’s scope of duties in Germany range from administrative assistance to government agencies in accordance with the German Basic Law (e.g. during major events such as the FIFA World Cup, and the G20Gruppe der zwanzig wichtigsten Industrie- und Schwellenländer Summit, or in the event of grave accidents and natural disasters such as forest fires and flood disasters) and the provision of Host Nation Support to friendly or allied armed forces during their stay in Germany, to the performance of homeland security tasks, both in peace-time and during a state of tension or defence.
