      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Bone Tomahawk's peculiar genre blend won't be for everyone, but its gripping performances and a slow-burning story should satisfy those in search of something different.

Johannes S A great and unique movie combining genres rarely combined. Acting, costume design, writing, etc. are simply fantastic but caution is advised, as there is heavy and gruesome violence. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Danielle V I havent seen a good thriller in a long time. Gory but very good. And scary! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review Aziz J Chickaree masterclass clears. Runs "Hope" in 2024. Also Jazzaiha has no jawline Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review Paul C Really good. Very long. Hard to watch at times, disturbing. 2hr 13min, probably took me four hours to watch it. I had to keep stopping to take breaks! Really cool tho, I'm glad I got to see it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review Nicolas P This was a terrible movie. I don't know where to start. The acting is terrible and even Kurt Russell struggles through the scenes. It is kind of like Land of the Lost as a western! It has no redeemable qualities. The makeup for the bad guys is laughable and the scenes in the "caves" look like they were built with Dollar General supplies by special needs folks. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Devin H Kurt Russel delivers again. His "Doc Holliday" character is essentially the same as what he portrays in this film, but it seems to be a positive rather than a negative. Unique western premise, mature and gruesome violence and a satisfying hero's ending tie this film together nicely. Mandatory viewing for anyone that enjoys westerns. Extra-mandatory for Kurt Russel and "Tombstone" fans. Strongly encouraged viewing for everyone else. Very enjoyable from start to finish. Tara Brady Irish Times Ultraviolence aside, there's plenty to admire about this innovative genre-bender. Rated: 4/5 Feb 23, 2016 Full Review Anton Bitel Sight & Sound a funny (strange and haha) western landscape where it is all too easy to get pillaged, consumed or lost. Feb 19, 2016 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) It is mostly just an excuse for the debut director, S Craig Zahler, to whip the rug out from under you, Tarantino-style. Rated: 2/5 Feb 18, 2016 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Bone Tomahawk surges head first into violence with absolute courage and graphic disregard. Rated: 3/5 Feb 16, 2024 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh The thrilling performances and engaging dialogue keeps you invested up through the brutal finale, more than making up for its shortcomings in its direction. Rated: 4/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Jordan Brooks Vague Visages Boasting some brutally insane practical effects, horrifying villains and a really cute old man, Bone Tomahawk is an unlikely paragon of genre-blending-gone-right.
