Initially introduced in The Empire Strikes Back, the bounty hunter Boba Fett quickly became a Star Wars icon, but over the course of his 40-year history, many people have stepped in to take over the role of the Mandalorian clone. Boba Fett has been featured in multiple Star Wars projects, including the original and prequel trilogies and animated shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars. In 2021, he even received his own show, The Book of Boba Fett, which turned the hunter into a crime lord and shared his experiences after the events of Return of the Jedi.

The role of Boba Fett is normally associated with a few actors, though several have played him. These range from grown adults to child actors, as the character is featured in various stages of his life. It’s rare in Star Wars that audiences follow characters from childhood into adulthood, but Fett's progression has been a natural part of the saga. Here are all seven actors who have brought Boba Fett to life.

Don Francks

Boba Fett in The Star Wars Holiday Special.

The late Don Francks may be one of the lesser-known actors to portray Boba Fett, as the Canadian only provided his voice. Francks was one of the uncredited voice actors who portrayed Boba Fett in the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special. Francks would later voice the famed bounty hunter in 1985’s animated show Star Wars: Droids. In the series, Francks also voiced Jann Tosh and Kybo Ren. Outside of Star Wars, Francks had multiple roles on Inspector Gadget and as Sabretooth in the 1992 X-Men series. Francks died of lung cancer in April 2016.

Gabriel Dell

Boba Fett in The Star Wars Holiday Special.

Gabriel Dell was best known as a member of The Dead End Kids and The Bowery Boys, both groups of young actors based in New York during the mid-30s and 40s. Dell was also part of the original cast of the Broadway play The Sign in Sidney Brustien’s Window, where he played the title character opposite Rita Moreno. For Star Wars, Dell, along with Don Francks, voiced Boba Fett in The Star Wars Holiday Special. Both men went uncredited in the role. Dell passed away after battling leukemia in 1988 at the age of 68.

Jeremy Bulloch

Jeremy Bulloch as Boba Fett.

Jeremy Bulloch is best known for physically portraying Boba Fett in the original Star Wars trilogy. First appearing in The Empire Strikes Back, Bulloch returned to the role for Return of the Jedi, though Fett would be seemingly killed off in the opening act of the film. Bulloch got the role of the masked bounty hunter through his half-brother, Robert Watts, a producer for The Empire Strikes Back who thought that Bulloch could fit into the costume.

Bulloch had two other roles in Star Wars. For The Empire Strikes Back, he was originally cast to play Lieutenant Sheckil, a role he still performed. The other part came as a cameo in Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith as Captain Colton, the pilot of Bail Organa blockade runner. Outside of Star Wars, Bulloch had roles on television shows like The Newcomers, where he played Phillip Cooper for 46 episodes, and as Rob Illingworth in Agony. Bulloch was very active at Star Wars conventions until his retirement in 2018, even becoming an honorary member of the 501st Regiment. Bulloch died from complications from Parkinson's in December 2020 at the age of 75.

Jason Wingreen

Best known for playing the recurring role of Harry Snowden on All in the Family and its subsequent sequel series Archie Bunker’s Place, Jason Wingreen was the original voice of Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Wingreen’s voice was also used in the 1990s Special Editions of the original trilogy, though it was redubbed by Temuera Morrison in editions created after 2004 so that the films better fit with the continuity of the expanding galaxy.

Mainly known as a character actor, Wingreen had guest appearances on many shows, including Star Trek and Seinfeld. Wingreen served in a recurring role on the legal mystery series Matlock, where he portrayed Judge Arthur Beaumont for 11 episodes. The New York native passed away at the age of 95 in his Los Angeles home in December 2015.

Temuera Morrison

Boba Fett in The Mandalorian season 2.

Initially making his Star Wars debut as Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett, Temuera Morrison has returned to Star Wars in severalroles across multiple projects. Jango Fett gave his DNA to the Kaminoans to build the Grand Army of the Republic’s clone troopers. In exchange, Jango requested one unaltered clone, whom he raised as his son, Boba. Boba Fett was only a child when his father was killed by Mace Windu in Star Wars :Episode II—Attack of the Clones, sending him on a quest for revenge. Morrison would go on to be the voice of the clones in Revenge of the Sith, though his stature and face were mainly used for Commander Cody.

Morrison recently revisited the role of the clones in Obi-Wan Kenobi when he portrayed a vetern 501st clone called Nax. Boba Fett was revealed to be alive in The Mandalorian season 2 and later got his own spin-off called The Book of Boba Fett, with Morrison playing the character in both. Outside of Star Wars, the New Zealand-born actor has voiced Chief Tui in Moana and played Aquaman’s father, Tom Curry, in the DC films. It’s still unclear if Morrison will return to Star Wars, though it’s been rumored he could portray clone Captain Rex in the upcoming Ahsoka series.

Daniel Logan

Boba Fett in Attack of the Clones.

Daniel Logan is best known for portraying the live-action and animated version of young Boba Fett. Logan acted alongside fellow Boba Fett star Morrison in Attack of the Clones, showing the origin of how the bounty hunter got his armor. Additionally, Logan voiced Fett and other young clones in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. These episodes saw how Boba adapted to life after his father’s death, evolving from a bloodthirsty orphan into the capable bounty hunter that would go down in infamy.

Outside of Star Wars, Logan hasn’t done much acting. Before his time in the galaxy far, far away, Logan had a role on the New Zealand nighttime soap-opera Shortland Street and was featured in an episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journey. In 2016 Logan portrayed Captain Fett in Sharknado: The 4th Awakens. The New Zealand native recently attained his American citizenship and now resides in California.

Finnegan Garay

Despite Logan portraying a young Boba Fett in Star Wars, for the character’s return in The Book of Boba Fett, some shots needed to be redone. To complete this, Finnegan Garay stood in as a body double for Logan, almost twenty years after Logan’s original performance. Garay was featured in The Book of Boba Fett episodes 1, 2, and 3 as part of flashback sequences. The 13-year-old is just starting his acting journey but has already had roles in series like Briarpatch and The Garcias. Despite Garay’s small role in Star Wars, he may be an actor the franchise revisits if creators ever want to feature Boba Fett in his teenage years.
