Blanca Margarita Blanco is an American actress[1] best known for The Dog of Christmas, Fake News, and Torch.
Early life and education[edit]
Blanco was born and raised in Watsonville, CA,[2] along with four siblings, by Mexican immigrant parents who worked multiple jobs to support them. She began taking acting and singing classes at a young age, often organizing theatre performances with her siblings, then joined the Gordon Hunt Group and The Groundlings for which she performed in multiple stage productions.[3][4] She graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and from Eastern Washington University with a Master of Social Work, in addition to studying Spanish in college. Blanco then worked as a counselor for hospice patients before transitioning to acting.[5] Blanco also trained with Sally Kirkland, John Savage, and Bruce Glover.[6]
Career[edit]
Blanco has appeared in multiple independent films, including Showgirls 2: Penny's From Heaven in 2011, Defending Santa in 2013, Bullet opposite Danny Trejo,[7] Crimes of the Mind, Anatomy of Deception, Star Trek Equinox: The Night of Time[8] and Bermuda Tentacles in 2014, Beverly Hills Christmas and Dubious Battle in 2015, and Woman on the Edge and the independent thriller film Fake News in 2017.[9][10] She also appeared in the films Teen Star Academy which premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2016,[11] 6 Children & 1 Grandfather which premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2017,[4] and Mission Possible which premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2018.[12]
In 2016, Blanco was honored with the Arido Award for her contribution to the film industry.[6] In 2018, she won the International Independent Film Festival Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Betrayed.[13]
She is a supporter of the American Cancer Society, Autism Speaks, AIDS Society, The Salvation Army, Point Foundation,[14] and is a community leader for End of Life issues.[4][15]

Personal life[edit]
Blanco and her partner John Savage lost their Malibu home to the 2018 Woolsey Fire.[17]
2018 Golden Globes controversy[edit]
In 2018, Blanco created public controversy after wearing a red gown to the 75th Golden Globe Awards, an event for which the majority of attendees wore all-black outfits in support of the Time's Up and Me Too movements against sexual harassment and assault.[18]
She responded to criticism in a public statement, saying:
"I love red. Wearing red does not mean I am against the #TimesUp movement. I applaud and stand by the courageous actresses that continue to break the circle of abuse through their actions and their style choice. It is one of many factors leading women to a safer place because of their status in the acting world. I am excited about the #TimesUp movement because true change is long overdue."[19][20][21]
