The story of Juventus FC, one of world football's truly great clubs and one of the oldest on the peninsula, is truly the story of Italian football. Known as La Vecchia Signora ("The Old Lady") she is a perfect blend of flair, artistry and skill, combined with a ruthless determination and will to win that constantly flirts with the less savoury elements of the game. For every Michel Platini or Alessandro Del Piero to win the hearts of fans of the beautiful game, there has been a Claudio Gentile or Paolo Montero waiting their moment to launch a well-timed elbow into an opponent. For every Gianni Agnelli to woo the crowds with his sartorial elegance and well chosen words, a Luciano Moggi lurks, playing the perfect villain and serving to heighten the levels of hate felt towards the club by rival supporters. It is all encapsulated by those starkly contrasting stripes which have become synonymous with the Turin giants. This is that story, a history in black and white.

Very good book written from the perspective of a fan. Quite entertaining and if you're a fan of Juventus you'll enjoy it a lot. For football fans in general is quite entertaining and is full of curiosities. It is a journey through the history of one of the biggest clubs in Italy and the world.
VINE VOICE
The most comprehensive book written about Juventus in the english language......given that it is the only one! However the book is only a brief overview of the club and only goes into detail during successful periods of the club's history, some of which is stained and conveniently glossed over here.
Coming in at just over 200 pages, the book is a quick yet informative read. But like most football books these days, there is an obsession with the modern era. The true history of Juventus is merely a footnote as the author seems impatient in getting to the Del Piero years. The various spells in which Juventus made up the numbers in Serie A and europe are virtually ignored to focus on the triumph and glory. And this rose tinted view point leads me to the biggest criticism of the book.
The Heysel disaster as well as the match fixing incidents which resulted in the club being relegated and stripped of previous titles are virtually ignored. Briefly mentioned here and there but clearly glossed over. The match fixing incidents are seen as a catalyst for how Juventus rose like a pheonix from the flames to become the strongest side in the country. Its a tale of glory and resurrection rather than one of a club who cheated. The dirty details are all but left to the side and you may be forgiven for thinking poor old Juventus became the victim of a conspiracy driven by other clubs. There is a distinct lack of detail in the book regarding these incidents.
Certainly a good yet short overview of the club but there are superior books written about Italian football on the market which the author wisely refers to. Had there been a bit more content and less hero worship it would have been a better book.

Interesting and absorbing book on the chequered history of Juventus fc. with lots of snippets I never knew. Good to see a couple of pages on the late, great John Charles, the idol of my boyhood.Like other reviewers I was a bit disappointed that there are no photographs at all; but this does not detract from the book being a good read.

... what a story!!! storia di un grande amore!!!
a comprehensive story of my most favorite football club. most detail book ever written (in english) for juventus history.
my suggestion is that it would be nicer to have some photos of characters in the book.

The book is marred by being unashamedly pro-Juve, which is maybe to be expected. But it doesn't deal with "certain elements" of Juve's recent history in a fair manner, and you need to approach that side of things with caution. There's also a big slant towards recent events - the halfway point is about Ancelotti, for example. Aside from those two things, this is a good and detailed history.

This felt like a fairly superficial dip into Juventus' history, for example, skimming over some of the more difficult periods in the club's history and the complex relationship between the club, the owners, the city and its people. Yes, they have had great players and won lots of trophies...but they have also been at the heart of some seismic episodes in calcio history which are given limited air time. It's fine, but in my view there are much more comprehensive and compelling books available which explore the history of Juventus.

It was interesting to learn about some of the history of this great football club, however the editing was done lazily as there are a lot of mistakes (including having the page numbers suddenly jumping by 10). The author appears to have his Juventus tinted specs firmly on when it comes to discussing a number of issues such as calciopoli as he complains more about other clubs such Inter than giving the facts about Juventus' dealings. I hope to see more books like this about Serie A but from an author that offers a more balanced approach
