This is an action packed James Patterson/David Ellis thriller……except the signature clipped dialogue, short cliffhanger chapters, and non-stop action are replaced by a complicated multi-thread novel with several exciting plot lines that come very nicely together. Billy and Patti Harley are Chicago Police like no others. This is the third in their series. Each book can be read as a stand alone. If you are looking for a procedural anchored in reality, this is not your book. It is entertaining, however. And there’s nothing wrong with entertaining. No spoilers…but we are dealing with a serial killer(s), a gang kingpin, his autistic financial wizard, a ticking clock race to save a kidnap victim, a Ponzi scheme millionaire whose wife may have been murdered….all pursued by a small group of CPD officers led by the Harneys. It all comes nicely together. Lots of heroic cops and awful bad guys. And BTW if you are following the series (this is number three) the Harney’s corrupt, imprisoned father makes an appearance as well. Recommended.
