  • Discovery confirms he is recovering from an upper respiratory infection.
  • Son Bear posted on Instagram that Billy was in “really bad shape.”

The Brown family, stars of the Discovery series Alaskan Bush People, have gone through a lot this year. First, matriarch Ami was treated for—and beat—lung cancer after having a very slim chance of survival. Then, the family packed up and moved to Washington so they could be closer to a hospital for Ami. And after that, oldest son Matt Brown returned to rehab to seek treatment for alcohol abuse.

Now, patriarch Billy Brown was briefly hospitalized after a health scare. Representatives for Discovery confirm to CountryLiving.com he’s now at home in Washington recovering from an upper respiratory infection.

Son Bear Brown posted on Instagram he was “with Dad at the hospital,” and he has “been in really bad shape this past week.”

This isn’t the first time Billy has dealt with a health issue. He suffers from seizures, and one of them was caught on camera and shown on Alaskan Bush People. Noah had found Billy in the woods struggling to stay conscious. “Can you see me? Can you hear me?” Ami is heard asking her husband. “I can hear you, Ami, it’s over, I’ve got it,” Billy responds.

“To put it bluntly, Dad just had a seizure, is what happened,” son Bam Bam told the cameras. “Every now and then, he weirds out, gets all dingy, he has a seizure. It varies from so light that he can kind of hide it from you, to so bad he just goes down and loses consciousness.”
