The newly appointed director of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn wasted no time in reaching out to Twi-hards across the world, issuing a letter via Facebook that pretty much sums up why he wanted to take on the tough task of helming what in all likelihood will become one of the biggest films of the decade. The good news is Condon promised fans that there won't be any musical numbers. Remember, aside from directing Breaking Dawn, he's the one responsible for films like Dreamgirls.

So if he's a fan of musicals, then why take on a movie about vampires? Well, Condon explains that he's always had a "thing" for vampires and stories with "gothic overtones." He says, "Like many of you, I've always been slightly obsessed with vampires, dating back to the prime-time series DARK SHADOWS, which I followed avidly as a kid." In terms of preparation, fans may find comfort in the fact that Condon has been working hard on this gig for awhile now. He notes, "I've read BREAKING DAWN twice, rewatched Catherine's and Chris's movies 2-3 times each, have all four CDs playing in my car, and have Catherine's notebook, Mark Cotta Vaz's companion books, and even Volume 1 of the graphic novel here on my desk - a corner of my office is starting to look like Hot Topic."

There's still no mention from Condon or Summit Entertainment on whether the fourth installment will be broken off into two parts, or if it'll be shot in 3D. You would think that a decision had to have been made before they brought Condon on, though perhaps they're still keeping it quiet since negotiations have to be made in regards to Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson – neither of whom are signed on for a fifth film.

You can read Condon's entire letter over on Facebook, where he encouraged fans to leave questions in the comments that he'll "do his best to answer". Do you think Condon is the right man for the job?
