It was known that Taylour Paige would be co-starring with Murphy as Jane, Axel Foley's daughter who works as a criminal defense attorney. A logline further teases how this is what leads Murphy's Axel to return to Beverly Hills. It reads, "Detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy."

“Detroit is a much different city than Los Angeles and especially Beverly Hills,” producer Jerry Bruckheimer said about the contrast between the two cities. “[Axel] still has the same kind of wonderment at the things you see walking down Rodeo Drive.” Director Mark Molloy added, "As we were scouting going from Detroit to Beverly Hills, the cultural contrast that made Axel a fish out of water in the eighties still is so vivid. They might just be the two most opposite places in America.”

Eddie Murphy Did a Lot of Improv for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

Molloy also spoke about how Murphy veered away from the script throughout the production, but that made for a better movie. The director noted, "Some of the funniest moments in Axel F are when Eddie's doing improvising. For me, a big part of my job was to create the right environment, cast the right people around Eddie to allow him to do what he does best.”

"Eddie's such an incredible artist," Bruckheimer also said. "He can do drama, he can do comedy – he can do anything. And he’s the same Axel Foley. He’s still on the streets. He’s still doing what he does. Obviously with age you get wiser. But he still has the twinkle in his eye.”

Will Beall, Tom Gormican, and Kevin Etten wrote the screenplay for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Bruckheimer and Murphy produced with Chad Oman. Along with the aforementioned cast members, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and Kevin Bacon also star.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F will premiere on Netflix in Summer 2024, while the original movie is currently available on the streaming service.
