Bethiah Snow 4 (Stephen 3, Constance Hopkins 2, Stephen 1) b. Eastham 1 July 1672; d. prob. Chatham after 31 July 1734.
She m. Eastham 14 May 1694 John Smith, b. there 26 May 1673; d. Chatham bef. 25 Feb. 1717/18; son of Samuel and Mary (Hopkins) Smith , a desc. of Pilgrim Stephen Hopkins and a second cousin of wife Bethiah.
John Smith shared in the 22 April 1697 division of his father's estate and the 18 July 1700 division of his mother's estate. He also signed in 1706 as an heir of his father-in-law Stephen Snow.
John Smith of Chatham was appointed guardian of his son Deane Smith, aged about 18, on 19 Oct. 1716, "some estate having fallen" to Dean by the "bequest and death of some of his relations."
The will of Miriam (Deane) Wing, widow of John Wing Jr. of Harwich, dated 24 May 1701 and proved 8 Jan. 1702/3, gave all of her property to Deane Smith, "son of my Kinswoman Bethyah Smith of Monamoiett." Settlement of the estate 14 Jan. 1702/3 mentioned kinsman Dean Smith as son of John Smith of Manomoiett. Miriam (Deane) Wing was a sister of Susanna (Deane) (Rogers) Snow, mother of Bethiah.
Administration of the estate of John Smith, late of Chatham, was granted to his son Samuel Smith of Chatham on 25 Feb. 1717/18. Guardians were appointed for John's minor children on 11 July 1722, as follows: Samuel Stuward of Chatham, yeoman, for Mary Smith (ae. ca. 20); Richard Knowles of Chatham, yeoman, for John Smith (ae. ca. 19); Thomas Atkins of Chatham, yeoman, for Stephen Smith (ae. ca. 16); William Nickerson of Chatham for Bethiah Smith (ae. ca. 14); Dean Smith of Chatham, yeoman, for David Smith (ae. ca. 11); and Samuel Smith of Chatham, yeoman, for Seth Smith (ae. ca. nine).
Completion of the settlement of the estate on 31 July 1734 disclosed that John Smith was survived by six sons: Samuel (the eldest), Dean, John, Stephen, David and Seth; and three daus.: Mercy, Mary and Bethiah. Dean had since died, leaving four children: Sons Dean, Heman and Asaph, and dau. Meriam. Widow Bethiah was then alive.
